Worth County’s boys had every right to expect a close game with North Andrew at the Stanberry Tournament Championship Saturday. In the GRC meeting between the two schools, Worth County was without Cade Allee and North Andrew was without Aidan DeLong. In the title game, Worth County had Allee back while North Andrew had DeLong back.
It figured to be one of the better games of the area, but instead, all hell broke loose in Stanberry as North Andrew jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and never looked back as they claimed the 63-40 victory. They were beating Worth County to every loose ball, raining 3-pointers right and left, and completely outclassing them. The Cardinals had 8 for the night.
Worth County attempted to make a stand in the second quarter, keeping it at 10 for much of the period. But then the bottom dropped out and the margin swelled to 38-20 at the half, too much for the Tigers to overcome. The Tigers could never get North Andrew out of their offensive rhythm; they didn’t get their first steal until three minutes were left in the second, when they were already down double digits.
The Tigers got to within 49-34 after three, but then the bottom dropped out again as they were outscored 14-6 in the fourth.
Jacob New led the scoring for Worth County with 11 points. Ryan McClellan had 7, Caleb Parman and Mason Hawk had 6, Drake Kinsella had 5, Tevin Cameron had 3, and Jaxon Anderson had 2.
