An online fundraiser is being held for Arnold Roebkes of Maryville, also known as “Mr. Bicycle Guy.” Recently, a Northwest Missouri State student was tragically killed when a driver plowed through The Palms. Roebkes left a bouquet of flowers at the scene of the accident, an act of kindness which was captured on a video camera and which has sparked an online fundraiser.
Emily Tobin of Maryville is the organizer. A direct link to the page is here.
On the fundraising page Tobin wrote, “This fundraiser is for Arnold Roebkes From Maryville, MO. He is also known as "Arnie," "Gentle Giant," or "Mr. Bicycle Guy." He has had a tough life, but would do anything for a stranger. He has a kind soul who recently placed flowers on the scene of a tragic accident. This simple act of kindness has now gone unnoticed. He is in need of basic necessities. He would like a new bike, food, and clothes. He wears size 10 shoes, 2X shirts, 38/36 pants. He needs warm socks, warm boots, tables, recliner, chairs, lamps, microwave, duffle bag, wallet, toiletries, etc. He would like a TV, too. He does need a new twin mattress and box springs. He also needs money to get caught up on some back bills. He would love some tools for when he does odd jobs for people. Snow shovel, rake, ax, hoe, trailer for the back of his lawn mower, etc. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.”
The goal for the fund drive was $3,000; however, as of Sunday evening, the drive had raised $3,276 in total funds. There were 80 donors who donated an average of $40 each to raise the funds.
