Four Hit Double Figures; Shamrock Girls Down South Harrison by 35

Four Shamrocks hit double figures Tuesday night and they didn’t skip a beat over the break as North Harrison continued to roll, beating South Harrison 67-32 Tuesday. Coach Aaron Long had every reason to be pleased, as they showed some of the balanced scoring he had been looking for all year. Payton Craig led the scoring with 22 points, doing nothing to hurt her position on the area scoring leaderboard, where she currently sits third. Brandy Rivet followed with 13, while Emma Craig had 13 and Addie Slaughter had a career night with 10; Long had been looking for her to finish around the basket, and she finally did. Eight different Shamrocks rounded out the scoring as Ashlynn Gilpatrick had 3 and Kami Gibson, Carly Rinehart, and Olivia Babinski had 2 each.

North Harrison came out with a flurry as South Harrison came out in a box and one on Payton Craig, only for her to pass out to Rivet for a 3-pointer. Rivet picked the wallet of a purple shirt and Craig hit a free throw after grabbing an offensive board after another Rivet steal to make it 6-0.

There was a heartstopping moment when Craig picked up her second foul just 1:13 into the game and sat down trying to rebound against one of two Bulldog 6’3” skyscrapers, Hailey Henry. Henry hit two free throws to cut it to 6-2, but North Harrison didn’t miss a beat as Olivia Babinski hit Rivet for another 3-pointer, Emma Craig got a putback, and Addie Slaughter hit her backdoor to make it 13-2.

Payton Craig came back in and got a tip and steal to make it 15-2. Emma Craig grabbed a putback and got an entry pass from Brandy Rivet and then added a free throw after Payton Craig got her the ball inside as North Harrison moved ahead 20-3. Emma Craig had 9 points in the period and Brandy Rivet had 8. Payton Craig had “only” three in the period.

The second quarter belonged to Addie Slaughter, as Olivia Babinski kept getting it in the high post and dumping it off to her, and she was finishing strongly around the basket; she had eight points in the frame. Payton Craig got her points as she scored off a pair of steals, one of which she turned into a 3-point play. Ashlynn Gilpatrick showed her 3-pointer against Stanberry was no accident as she added one Tuesday night as North Harrison led 37-15 at the half.

South Harrison tried to keep up with the Shamrocks, throwing a 1-3-1 halfcourt trap at them, but then Payton Craig took over the game in the third quarter, hitting Brandy Rivet for a 3-pointer and capitalizing off a steal of her own and a flurry of thefts by her teammates as the Shamrocks pushed the lead into running clock territory at 46-15. Henry countered inside for South Harrison, but then Payton Craig drove for a layup after getting a pass in the high post from Rivet; Payton Craig got a tip, Rivet got the steal, and fed Craig; and Rivet hit Kami Gibson inside and she hit two free throws to make it 52-17 at the 3:30 mark.

North Harrison led it 56-21 after three and then Payton Craig hit Addie Slaughter backdoor to put her in double figures, Addie Slaughter hit a cutting Emma Craig to put her in double figures, and Payton hit a free throw and a layup off consecutive steals to give the Shamrocks their biggest lead of 63-21 with 5:17 left in the game.

Emma Craig got a double double as she added 10 boards to go with her 13 points despite being limited in the second half by foul trouble.
