Mustang Boys Hit Scoring Slump, Ousted from Fairfax

North Nodaway’s boys have held their own in regular season matchups, going 5-6. However, they have struggled in tournament play, going 0-5 this year. They were ousted from the Fairfax Tournament after not scoring double digits in any of the eight quarters that they played.

The Mustangs were outplayed and outscored in all four quarters against South Holt Tuesday as they fell 62-33 in the opening round game. Arron Coleman had 11. Tyler Bix had 8, Cole Bird 7, Austin Bird 3, and Cody Wood and Logan Keho 2 each. Austin Bird had the lone three for the boys. They were 8 for 13 from the line.

North Nodaway could not catch a break in the pairings as Savannah JV’s squad knocked off Rock Port and South Holt and nearly knocked off St. Joseph Christian before losing by six in the championship round. That meant that instead of a possible ticket to the consolation round, they were faced with the second seeded Rock Port squad.

They had every reason to expect a close game, as they had lost 53-50 the week before in the 275 Conference matchup. However, they could not buy a bucket against Rock Port and fell 48-22. Austin Bird and Arron Coleman had 6 to pace North Nodaway, which trailed 16-2 after the first quarter. Cody Wood had 4, Tyler Bix 3, and Karson Oberhauser 3.
