Zelma Beatrice Leona Munsey Shackelford, 100, of Blockton, IA, and formerly of Maryville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the SSM Hospital in Maryville.
Zelma was born on September 26, 1917, in Graham, MO, and moved to Maryville in 1943. Her parents were Ira E. and Martha Josephine (Burchett) Munsey, and preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on March 4, 1999; and 2 brothers, Glen Munsey and Davis Munsey.
Zelma was a housewife most of her life, and always raised a garden near her home. She had worked at Registered Arrow, a bow and arrow factory in Maryville, the former Knotty Pine Motel, the former Cardinal Inn and was a cook for 15 years at former Noah’s Ark daycare center, all of Maryville.
She taught Sunday school for over 60 years at the Community of Faith Church, Maryville, and had taught the Missionettes, a Christian girls club, and had been president of the Golden Agers Club. In 1986 she started playing the piano for local nursing homes and entertained all over the Maryville area for many years.
On June 18, 1940, Zelma was united in marriage to Wayne H. Shackelford in Burlington Junction, MO. He preceded her in death.
Her survivors include her children, Jack (Sherry) Shackelford, Blockton, IA, and Sharon Shackelford, Maryville, MO; 14 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO.
Friends may call after 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
