Weston Hill, Hudson Cameron Go Bezerk in Second Quarter as Junior High Boys Remain Unbeaten

Platte Valley’s boys had Worth County down for the count in Jefferson Thursday, but Weston Hill and Hudson Cameron went totally bezerk in the second quarter as Worth County climbed back to take the lead at one point. With Hill and Cameron both at four fouls, they sat out the third quarter, but a makeshift lineup with subs Silas Brown and Gunnar Smith seeing extended minutes held the fort for the third quarter. Then, Worth County pulled away to a double digit lead before a frantic rally by Platte Valley came up five points short at 43-38.

For the first three minutes of the game, Platte Valley completely manhandled and outplayed Worth County as Levi Hansen got four, Lucas Redden got four, and Easton Davis two as Platte Valley led 10-0 at the 2:59 mark. Weston Hill finally put Worth County on the board, but Redden hit a 3-pointer before Cole Hardy hit a free throw to make the Tiger deficit 13-3 after one.

But in the second quarter, Weston Hill and Hudson Cameron decided that there was no way that they were going to let Platte Valley push their team around, and they started fighting for every loose ball, going for every steal, and hammering anyone who tried to attack the rim, and they didn’t care if they used up their fouls trying to do it.

Cole Hardy and Max Hiatt cut the Tiger deficit to 13-7 before Levi Hansen raised Platte Valley’s lead to 15-7. But then Weston Hill hit a free throw and then Cole Hardy got loose in transition and Weston Hill got loose in transition and got a pass from Jarrett Gilland after Hill got a steal. That cut the deficit to 15-12.

Both Hill and Cameron picked up their fourth foul at that point, but Worth County kept coming, getting a steal from Hiatt and a drive from Cole Hardy to somehow give them the lead before Redden put Platte Valley back in front 17-16 at the half.

With both Hill and Cameron in foul trouble, Worth County had to have Cole Hardy carry the team on his shoulders, and the rest of the team had to hold the fort. Redden pushed Platte Valley up 21-18 early in the third, but then Cole Hardy went coast to coast to make it 21-20 again. Hardy picked up his third foul, but Max Hiatt drove and converted a three point play to put Worth County in front 23-21. Gunnar Smith scored a backdoor layup to make it 25-21 before Redden scored three straight to cut it to 25-24 after three.

Despite Cameron and Hill coming back, Preston Hill put Platte Valley in front 26-25, but then Hudson Cameron scored on a drive, finally getting on the board. Cole Hardy followed with a 3-pointer, and Jarrett Gilland followed with a putback. Max Hiatt got a steal, Weston Hill scored from inside, and Cole Hardy capped off the run with a three point play to put the Tigers in front 39-26 with 2:11 left.

But then Platte Valley put together a frantic rally, sparked by Easton Davis finally knocking down a 3-pointer. Levi Hansen scored four straight to make it 40-33 before Hudson Cameron finally converted a three point play with 47 seconds left to make it 43-33. Platte Valley kept coming, with Lucas Redden getting a putback and Easton Davis hitting an NBA 3-pointer before Platte Valley finally ran out of time.
