Delbert S. Worthington 1944-2025

Delbert Samuel Worthington, age 81, Grant City, Missouri died unexpectedly November 6, 2025, at Village Care Nursing Home in Maryville, Missouri.

Delbert was born June 30, 1944, in Maloy, Iowa.  He was the son of the late James Frances and Ruby Irene (Lynch) Worthington.

Delbert was a graduate of Mount Ayr High School Class of 1961, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

After graduation Delbert moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he worked for a nursing home in the maintenance department.  After some time there, in December of 1975 he and his family moved to Grant City.  While living in Grant City he had worked for Goff Construction and worked for his uncle Dee Lynch on the farm. 

Delbert owned and operated the Highway Grocery for 14 years from 1975 to 1989. While there he met many friends and neighbors who enjoyed his quick wit and smile and his sense of humor which included the occasional practical joke.

Delbert loved watching western movies on television.  So much so that he had seen practically all of them 3-4 times.  “Because you just can’t catch everything the first time through.”

Delbert was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr.

Delbert was preceded in death by an infant daughter Terri Worthington, his parents James and Ruby, his siblings Lavern, John, Eddie, Dennis, Gayle, Helen and Judy.

His survivors include children Sherri Runde, Delbert (Karen) Worthington, Stephanie Solon, Julia Molthan, grandchildren Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Jennifer, William, Carrissa, Taylor, Mitchell, Megan, Kirsten, Gabriella, Tyler, Ashlyn, great grand children Hadley, Olivia and John, brothers Jim and Bob and sister Debbie.

Delbert’s body has been cremated under the care of the Hann Funeral Home, Grant City.  There are no services scheduled at this time.
