Mad Max Carries Tigers Over Shamrocks

Max Hiatt, aka Mad Max, went totally berserk in Worth County's 50-15 win over North Harrison Monday. Although he didn't score a point, he controlled the game, getting 9 assists and 10 steals to come close to an improbable double-double. He was flying around the gym all night long and even showed off his vertical, jumping over a chair into the bleachers in an effort to save a ball from going out of bounds. Worth County is undefeated on the year, but they were playing with a chip on their shoulder even though they had won handily the first two games.

Mad Max got started early, hitting Cole Hardy for an easy shot after the Tigers controlled the opening tip. Then, he got a steal and fed it to Cole, who fed it to Hudson Cameron for two. Jhet Rinehart cut inside and scored, and North Harrison got a stop but then Mad Max struck again, getting a steal and feeding Cole Hardy for two. The rest of the team followed his lead as Cole Hardy got a steal and fed Hudson Cameron. Cole Hardy got a tip, and Mad Max got another steal, feeding Weston Hill for two. The avalanche continued in the second quarter as Jarrett Gilland found Hudson Cameron for three and Mad Max struck again, this time getting a steal and finding Cole Hardy for two. Cole Hardy twice grabbed defensive boards and beat the Shamrocks down the court. The bench got in on the act as Jace Mullock went to the rack for two, Silas Brown got a steal and drive, and then Gunnar Smith aired it out to Cole Hardy to make it 36-2 before Jhet Rinehart found Charlie Frank open underneath to break the run.

Mad Max struck again, getting a steal and feeding Cole Hardy for two to start the second half. A frustration foul followed, and Cole Hardy hit one of two to make it 39-4. Frustrated Shamrock skipper Trey Baker was constantly imploring his team to sprint back on defense and even had them sprint off the floor during substitutions. They finally showed some fight as Scotty Briggs knocked one down from the high post and Eli Jacobs knocked one down from the baseline to make it 39-8.

Mad Max continued to play with a frenzy, finding Jarrett Gilland inside; he drew a foul and made one of two. Gilland found Hudson Cameron open for a drive, and Mad Max got a steal, took it in himself, missed, but Weston Hill was there for the putback to make it 44-10. North Harrison learned that when a team makes a run on them, they could fight back as Jhet Rinehart countered with a steal. Luca Sagel inbounded to Gunnar Smith for two for the Tigers, but Jhet Rinehart added a putback and Matt Richardson got on the board with a free throw, making it 46-13 to close out the third.

Eli Jacobs started the fourth with a baseline shot for the Shamrocks before Jace Mullock hit a pullup and Emmett Frisch got loose inside after Sagel inbounded it to him to close out the game.
