Renae Gladstone had a big defensive night for Worth County Monday as the Tigers bounced back from their shocking loss to Northeast Nodaway the game before, dropping St. Gregory's 42-16. She had 6 tips and 7 steals for the Tigers and added 5 assists.
The game started off as a defensive standoff, with St. Gregory's playing physical help defense and trying to keep Worth County out of the paint. Brooklyn Smith hit a 3-pointer to start the game and Stella Siemer got loose for the Falcons. That was the only scoring until the last 2:54 of the first quarter, when Brooklyn hit a free throw, scored off a drive, and knocked one down from the high post. Molly Simmerman went coast to coast to cut it to 8-4, but Gabbey Maudlin came off the bench for the Tigers and connected to make it 10-4 after one.
Brooklyn Smith and Renae Gladstone scored off drives, and Smith knocked one down from the high post to make it 16-5, only for St. Gregory's to rally. Brinley Roderick knocked one down from the high post, Austyn Quinlin knocked one down from the baseline, and Roderick knocked another one down to make it 16-11 and the game was threatening to follow the script of the Northeast Nodaway game. But this time, Worth County learned its lesson and righted the ship in the last few minutes. Brooklyn Smith slashed and scored for a three-point play, and then Gwyn Healy got a steal. She missed, but Brooklyn was there to clean it up and convert another three-point play. Gwyn Healy finally got one to go down after Renae Gladstone set her up with a drive to make it 25-11 at the half.
Brooklyn continued to have the hot hand for the Tigers, knocking down a 3-pointer from the top of the key to start the third quarter. Renae Gladstone knocked one down from the high post, and Gabbey Maudlin, who earned a lot more "A" team minutes Monday night, knocked down another shot from the high post. Brooklyn Smith went coast to coast and Kaydence Downing scored off a steal to make it 36-11 before Worth County began subbing freely.
In the fourth quarter, Jolee Hauber knocked down a baseline shot, Daden Findley scored off a drive, and Catelynn Moyer hit two free throws, banking them both home.
Brooklyn Smith had 23 points. Gabbey Maudlin and Renae Gladstone had 4 each. Gwyn Healy had 3 and Kaydence Downing. Jolee Hauber, Daden Findley, and Catelynn Moyer had 2 each.
Hadley Rush, Renae Gladstone, Jane Hawk, Gwyn Healy, Kaydence Downing, Catelynn Moyer, and Daden Findley all had blocked shots.
Jolee Hauber, who has become a rebounding machine during the "B" games, led the varsity with 4 boards. Hadley Rush, Brooklyn Smith, Brecklyn Rush, and Renae Gladstone had 3. Gwyn Healy and Gabbey Maudlin had 2, while Jane Hawk, Kaydence Downing, Keylee Smith, Daden Findley, and Tatum Allee had 1 each.
Renae Gladstone had 5 assists. Hadley Rush, Brecklyn Rush, Brooklyn Smith, and Kaydence Downing had 1 each.
Gwyn Healy had 8 tips. Renae Gladstone had 6, Brooklyn Smith 4, Hadley Rush and Hadley Downing 3 each, and Jane Hawk, Keylee Smith, Gabbey Maudlin, and Karleigh Guinn 1 each.
Renae Gladstone had 7 steals. Brooklyn Smith had 5, Kadence Downing 4, Jolee Hauber 3, Gwyn Healy and Gabbey Maudlin 2 each, and Brecklyn Rush and Hadley Downing 1 each.
The "B" girls won as well as Daden Findley cut inside and got an inbounds pass from Tatum Allee and Addie Cadle had a drive and pullup in a 4-0 win in one quarter of action.
Kynlee Wymore, Kyah Joslin, and Ilene Combs had 2 boards. Karleigh Guinn and Kylie Combs had 1.
Tatum Allee had 1 assist. Addie Cadle had 1 tip.
Daden Findley had 2 steals. Addie Cadle, Kynlee Wymore, and Kylie Combs had 1 each.
