Jarrett Gilland and Max Hiatt locked down Platte Valley Thursday as Worth County had a much easier time of it against them the second time around and beat them 44-27 to claim the championship of the Platte Valley Tournament. Gilland, tasked with guarding the much taller Lucas Redden, held him to ten points. Max Hiatt guarded Easton Davis, who had the ability to slash to the baseline at any time. Davis converted a couple of drives to the basket early, but then Mad Max locked him down and shut him out the rest of the way. Mad Max had a big night on the other end as well, getting a career high of 13 points as he started getting more confident in finding his own chances as the season has progressed.
Davis knotted the game at 2 early, but then Mad Max hit a 3-pointer and Cole Hardy hit a drive and pullup to put the Tigers up 7-2. Platte Valley hung around, with Redden slashing and scoring and Theodore Holtman converting a 3-point play before Hudson Cameron’s free throw made it 12-7 after one.

Holtman cut it to 27-15 at the end of the half and Redden went coast to coast again to start the third quarter, but then Weston Hill restored order with an inside shot and Cole Hardy hit a 3-pointer to make it 32-17. Hudson Cameron picked up his fourth foul, but like last time, the benchwarmers held the fort, with Gunnar Smith and Silas Brown both coming off and giving the Tigers quality minutes.
Preston Salisbury cut the Platte Valley deficit to 35-21 late in the third, but then Cole Hardy got a steal, Max Hiatt hit a pair of free throws, and Hudson Cameron got loose in transition to make it 41-21 early in the fourth to trigger wholesale substitutions on both sides. Luca Sagel hit a 3-pointer for the Tigers down the stretch.
