Chance Jacobs 2002-2025

LCPL Chance Anthony Jacobs was born December 4, 2002 to Ed Jacobs and Diania Sanders in Maryville, Missouri.  He graduated from Worth County in 2021.

Chance has spent the last three years in San Diego, California at Camp Pendleton as an active-duty United States Marine.  But was raised in Sheridan, Missouri all his life.

He was united in marriage to Jenna (Smith) Jacobs on December 10, 2022.  To this union two children were born, Baylor Jacobs on August 9, 2022 and Briar Jacobs on November 12, 2024.  His children were the light of his life!  He loved every bit of being their father.

He also loved riding four wheelers, spending time with his family and friends, most likely he was carrying a football with him in case anyone was up to a game, bonfires with friends and especially the class of 2021, floating the river (was a river rat before he could walk), working cows, shooting guns, snipe hunting at the Lazy J. He was a huge Lane Frost fan and would watch 8 seconds on loop, was an avid Chiefs fan and could tell you all of the players’ stats.

Chance grew up with a built-in best friend in his brother Cash, a hunting guide in his brother Clayton and an extra mother in his sister Cheyenne as he was her baby from time he was born.

He always talked about being a Marine and he achieved his goal and became United States Marine on February 13, 2023, and was promoted to LCPL on April 1, 2024.  Chance loved with his whole heart and was deeply loved by all.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents; wife Jenna; children Baylor and Briar Jacobs; sister Cheyenne Troutwine (Brendan Moutray); brothers Clayton (Shelby) Troutwine and Cash Jacobs; nieces Teagan Saville and Dawsyn Moutray; nephews Creyton, Huck and McCoy Troutwine; grandparents Charles Sanders and David (Sherry) Evans; aunts and uncles James (Kelly) Jackson, Jason (Lisa) Krone and Keith (Julie) Cassavaugh and many cousins.  He was proceeded in death by his grandmother Connie Sanders; grandfather Edwin Jacobs; great-grandparents Joe (Kathryn) King, Don (Helen) Sanders and Roy (Marian) Rowe.

In lieu of flowers there has been a memorial fund set up at First Interstate Bank in Grant City, Missouri for Chance’s children.

Funeral Services are pending at this time.

Carsynn Robertson's Dagger Three Sinks Winston

Gilman City's junior high girls were locked in a tight game Thursday with Winston. Chyles Webb was on fire for the Hawks, with all but two of the Hawks' points until the 3:19 mark of the third quarter. Gilman City had scored the first four points of the third quarter, but it still had the feel of a close game with the Redbirds. The Hawks were up 19-11 after leading 15-11 at the half. But then Carsynn Robertson came off the bench and everything changed in a heartbeat. She knocked down a 3-pointer right off the bat to make it 22-11, and then proceed to get some tips, rebounds, and steals for the Hawks.

Winston continued to fight on but never got their deficit below double digits after Robertson's blow. Chyles Webb knocked one down from the high post to make it 24-10.

Gracie Youtsey, who had torched North Harrison for 24 of Winston's 28 points that night, answered with a free throw, but Emmery Smith finally knocked one down from the wing before Ilaina Scott knocked one down from the wing at the third quarter buzzer to make it 26-14.

Nova Smith got on the board for Gilman City and had the hot hand in the fourth, pushing it to as much as 30-16 as Autumn Clevenger came off the bench and bottled up Youtsey before she finally got untracked to bring Winston to within 30-20. But Aspen Wyatt came back in and held strong against Youtsey, even stuffing her on one occasion down the stretch, and Winston went scoreless for the last 3:46.

The first part of the game was a scoring duel between Chyles Webb and Gracie Youtsey. Youtsey began the game by bulldozing to the basket at will to give her team a 5-3 lead early on. But then Chyles Webb answered the challenge, pulling up twice when the Redbirds didn't pick her up bringing the ball down the court and knocked down back-to-back jacks to put Gilman City up 9-5 after one. Youtsey and the Redbirds knotted it again at 9-9, but Chyles Webb stole the ball after Winston had a chance to go ahead and converted on the other end. She got a nice skip pass from Emmery Smith to make it 13-9. Youtsey cut it to 13-11, but Webb cut inside and got a pass to make it 15-11 at the half.

Aspen Wyatt cleaned up after Webb missed a layup to start the second half and Webb took on two Redbird defenders and finished over Youtsey before Robertson came on with her dagger.

Chyles Webb had 19 points for the Hawks. Nova Smith had 4, Carsynn Robertson 3, and Aspen Wyatt and Emmery Smith 2 each.

Emmery Smith, Chyles Webb, Nova Smith, and Aspen Wyatt had 1 block each.

Nova Smith had 11 boards. Chyles Webb, Aspen Wyatt, Autumn Clevenger, and Carsynn Robertson had 3 boards each, Emmery Smith 2, and Mallory Chalfant, Colby Robertson, and Shayleigh Webb had 1 each.

Emmery Smith had 3 assists. Nova Smith had 2 and Mallory Chalfant and Carsynn Robertson had 1 each.

Chyles Webb had 6 tips. Emmery Smith had 3, Nova Smith, Aspen Wyatt, and Malory Chalfant had 2 each, and Colby Robertson and Bonnie Grover had 1 each.

Chyles Webb had 8 steals. The focus of the game was on pressuring the Winston guards so they could not feed Youtsey at will, and Webb was able to lock them down all night as the Hawks held her to 15. Aspen Wyatt had 3, Carsynn Robertson and Colby Robertson had 2 each, and Emmery Smith 1.

The Hawks lost to a tough Grundy County squad but then responded the next night against Tri-County. The Mustangs didn't have enough girls to field a team, so they had some of their boys' players play over on the girls' team. It didn't matter as the Hawks ran away with the game and got back on the winning track. The theme for the Hawks could be Kenny Loggins' "Playing with the Boys." Officially, the game counted as a forfeit, since Tri-County didn't have enough girls.

The boys were not so fortunate as they led Hudson Warner run wild, scoring 27 points for the Redbirds in a 38-18 defeat. The Hawks were ice-cold the whole first half and turned the ball over 27 times for the game, digging themselves into a 27-4 hole at the half. They came out in the last two quarters with one of their best halves of the year, cutting their deficit down to 33-16 at one point before Walker Estep scored five quick points to provide the dagger at the end.

Grady Webb had 8 points. Kasim Curtis and Aaron Sybert had 4, and Johnson Alldredge threw up a prayer from the right wing that went in for two points.

Grady Webb had 4 blocks. Oliver Griffith, Aaron Sybert, Clayton McLain, and Brentley Hogan had 1 each.

Grady Webb had 15 boards. Aaron Sybert had 13, Brentley Hogan and Oliver Griffith had 4 each. Kendrix Hogan and Kasim Curtis had 2 each, and Jonah Scarborough, Kameron Selby, and Johnson Alldredge had 1 each.

Brentley Hogan, Grady Webb, Kasim Curtis, and Kameron Selby had 1 assist each.

Grady Webb had 3 tips. Aaron Sybert, Kendrix Hogan, and Kasim Curtis had 2 each.

Grady Webb had 5 steals. Kasim Curtis had 3, Oliver Griffith and Brentley Hogan 2 each, and Johnson Alldredge and Aaron Sybert had 1.

Cole Hardy Leads Three Tigers in Double Figures Past Pattonsburg

Cole Hardy led three Tigers in double figures past Pattonsburg as the boys followed the girls lead and breezed past the Panthers 51-7 Tuesday, October 28th.

Worth County was playing their first game of the season while Pattonsburg had some games under their belt. But it only took the Tigers two minutes to get the first-game jitters out of their system. Once that happened, Cole Hardy scored seven quick points, cashing in off steals from Jarrett Gilland and Max Hiatt and adding a 3-pointer off a pass from Gilland to make it 7-0.

That was enough to spark an avalanche as Hudson Cameron got a steal and fed Max Hiatt for two, Weston Hill got a putback, Jarrett Gilland went backdoor to score, Hudson Cameron cut inside and got a pass from Max Hiatt, Gunnar Smith got a steal and aired it out to Hudson for a score, and Cole Hardy got a steal and fed Max Hiatt at the buzzer to make it 19-0 after one.

Hudson Cameron started the scoring in the second with a 3-pointer from the top of the key after a pass from Cole Hardy, Cole got a tip-in after a Jarrett Gilland steal, Cole Hardy kicked one out to Max Hiatt for three, Cole Hardy scored off a steal and then scored off a Jarrett Gilland steal, Max Hiatt got a steal, fed Cole Hardy, who fed it back to Hiatt for two, and then the scene repeated itself throughout the rest of the half. At one point, Worth County scored off seven steals in just over a two-minute span to make it 42-0.

Gunnar Smith, normally a post player, knocked down a 3-pointer after Silas Brown got caught in traffic and kicked it out to him. Smith added a third-chance putback and then Silas Brown converted a Hudson Cameron steal to make it 49-0.

Pattonsburg finally got on the board in the second half with Thomas Warren breaking the ice with a pair of free throws and Hayes Booth adding a drive. Bentley White added a free throw and a drive for Pattonsburg before Emmett Frisch scored in transition for Worth County in a half that saw running clock action for most of the second half.

Cole Hardy had 15 for the Tigers. Hudson Cameron had 12 and Max Hiatt had a career night with 11. Gunnar Smith had 5, and Weston Hill, Jarrett Gilland, Silas Brown, and Emmett Frisch had 2 each.

Daden Findley Paces "B" Girls in 20-10 Win; Daisy Crabtree Bright Spot for Panthers

Daden Findley paced Worth County's junior high "B" girls, getting six points in a 20-10 win over Pattonsburg. Daisy Crabtree did all she could for the Panther squad, getting five steals for her team.

The first quarter belonged to the Tigers as Hadley Downing scored off a drive and Ilene Combs scored off an inside shot to make it 4-0. But then Kyndall Hunter came off the bench and went on one of her big scoring spurts in the last 1:26 of the second quarter, scoring six points in that span to tie it up at 6-6, forcing the Tigers to win it all over again.

Hadley Downing broke the tie to start the third and then Daden Findley got a putback. Karleigh Guinn scored off a Hadley Downing steal with 3:41 left to give Worth County some separation at 12-6. Worth County was swarming and pressing all night, but Kentley Plymell showed some promise, going coast to coast and hitting two free throws to cut it to 12-8. But Kyah Joslin and Addie Cadle slashed to the rim in the last 37 seconds to give Worth County a 16-8 lead after three.

Chloe Womble scored from inside for Pattonsburg to cut it to 16-10, but then Worth County started winning the turnover battle down the stretch, and it paid off as Karleigh Guinn and Daden Findley scored off steals to secure the win.

Brooklyn Smith, Keylee Smith Gash Panthers as Tigers Win Big

Brooklyn Smith and Keylee Smith had big nights for Worth County's junior high basketball team as they beat Pattonsburg 49-2 Tuesday, October 28th.

Pattonsburg had every right to expect to put up some kind of a fight, since they had games under their belt and Worth County was playing its first game. But the stats were totally lopsided in Worth County's favor; they forced 33 turnovers while surrendering the ball only 14 times. They outrebounded Pattonsburg 34-13, and Pattonsburg got hardly any looks at the basket all night.

It started just a few seconds into the game when Worth County controlled the tap, and Renae Gladstone threw ahead to Brecklyn Rush for the first points of the season. Gladstone inbounded to Brooklyn Smith for her first three points of the season and free throws from Jane Hawk pushed it up to 7-0. Keylee Smith got on the board for the first time off a pass from Renae Gladstone after Gwyn Healy got a steal, and then Brooklyn Smith was all by herself after making a backdoor cut and followed up with a steal after Keylee Smith got a tip. Keylee Smith, only a sixth grader, heated up in the post, scoring four more to close out the quarter with the Tigers up 17-0. Addley Hulet did all she could for the Panthers, getting four boards in the quarter, but they could not even get off a shot at the basket most of the time.

Brooklyn Smith got loose inside twice off passes from Jane Hawk, and Brecklyn Rush got on the board with a putback to make it 23-0. Hulet finally broke the shutout for Pattonsburg, but Keylee Smith got loose inside and got a pass from Gabbey Maudlin and then Gwyn Healy threw a long pass down the court to find her in the high post to make it 27-2 at the half.

Brooklyn continued to score for the Tigers in the third quarter, getting a steal and then cashing in off a Renae Gladstone steal. Brooklyn Smith got a tip and steal and fed Renae Gladstone, and then Jane Hawk found Brooklyn Smith down low for two. Putbacks by Renae Gladstone and Keylee Smith put the Tigers up 39-2 and triggered the running clock.

Brooklyn Smith collected two more steals and knocked down a shot from the right side after a fourth-chance board by Jane Hawk, who kicked it out to her. Jane Hawk hit a pair of free throws and Gabbey Maudlin knocked down a baseline shot after Gwynn Healy pushed it up the floor.

Brooklyn Smith had 23 points. Keylee Smith had 12, Brecklyn Rush, Jane Hawk, and Renae Gladstone had 4, and Gabbey Maudlin had 2.

Renae Gladstone, Brooklyn Smith, Gwyn Healy, and Jane Hawk had 4 assists each. Catelynn Moyer and Gabbey Maudlin had 1 each.

Renae Gladstone and Gwyn Healy had 5 tips. Keylee Smith, Brooklyn Smith, and Hadley Rush had 2, and Gabbey Maudlin, Kaydence Downing, and Hadley Downing had 1.

Harrison, Daviess Counties Added to CWD Management Zone

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds deer hunters of new regulations related to chronic wasting disease (CWD) and other changes for the 2025-2026 deer-hunting season. Get more information from the MDC 2025 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information booklet, through the MDC MO Hunting app, and online at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer.

Carcass Movement and Disposal

The rule that prohibited transporting high-risk deer parts -- such as the brain and spinal cord -- out of the county of harvest has been removed. Hunters are now required to dispose of unused deer parts in trash that is dumped in a sanitary landfill or on the property where the deer was harvested. Hunters must Telecheck their deer before transporting it (or its parts) out of the county where it was harvested or by 10 p.m. on the day of harvest, whichever comes first. The interstate carcass movement restrictions for those bringing harvested deer, elk, moose, or caribou into Missouri have not changed. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/chronic-wasting-disease/carcass-transportation-disposal.

CWD Management Zone

The following counties have been added to the CWD Management Zone: Callaway, Cape Girardeau, Daviess, Harrison, Henry, Marion, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Ralls, St. Louis, and Texas. Within the past year, these counties either had their first CWD detection (Callaway, Marion, Miller, Morgan, Texas) or are within 10 miles of a CWD detection (Cape Girardeau, Daviess, Harrison, Henry, Moniteau, Ralls, St. Louis). These counties are open during the CWD Portion of firearms deer season. Placement of feed and minerals is prohibited in CWD Management Zone counties. The antler-point restriction (APR) has been removed in Callaway, Daviess, Harrison, Henry, Marion, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, and Ralls counties. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/chronic-wasting-disease/cwd-management-zone-regulations.

Voluntary CWD Sampling Sept. 15 to Jan. 15

MDC encourages hunters who harvest deer anywhere in Missouri throughout the entire deer hunting season — Sept. 15 through Jan. 15 — to get free CWD testing for their harvested deer at numerous sites around the state including MDC offices, participating taxidermists and meat processors, and freezer drop-off locations. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/chronic-wasting-disease/voluntary-cwd-sampling.

Mandatory CWD Sampling Nov. 15 and 16 in select counties

All deer harvested in designated CWD Management Zone counties during the opening weekend of the November Portion of the firearms season -- Nov. 15 and 16 -- must be taken (or the deer head) to an MDC Mandatory Sampling Station on the day of harvest. Sampling stations will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mandatory CWD sampling for this year will focus on counties that are newer to the CWD Management Zone. Mandatory CWD sampling will not be conducted in many counties where it has been conducted in previous years. MDC encourages hunters to check the status of the counties where they hunt. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/chronic-wasting-disease/mandatory-cwd-sampling.

Early Youth Portion Bag Limit

Youth hunters may now harvest more than one deer during the Early Youth Portion of firearms deer season. This change simplifies regulations by standardizing the bag limit across all portions of firearms deer season. The statewide limit of one antlered buck during firearms deer season (all portions combined) still applies. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/seasons/deer-firearms-youth-portions.

Firearms Antlerless Permits

Hunters may now fill four firearms antlerless permits in Buchanan, Clinton, Dade, DeKalb, Lawrence, and Texas counties. Qualifying resident landowners in the following counties may now receive two Resident Landowner Firearms Antlerless Permits: Andrew, Atchison, Butler, Carter, Dunklin, Holt, Iron, Mississippi, New Madrid, Nodaway, Pemiscot, Scott, Stoddard, and Wayne. This change simplifies regulations by standardizing the limit (two) of Resident Landowner Firearms Antlerless Permits in all counties. Wyatt Maize Breaks 1,000 Yard Barrier as Panthers Drop Albany

Wyatt Maize broke the 1,000 yard rushing yard barrier for Pattonsburg as the Panthers beat Albany 64-56 to clinch a second seed in the districts and earn a bye for Friday. They will play again on Friday, November 7th against either King City or Princeton. The Panthers led the whole way, but had to hang by their fingernails at the end with Albany riding Elliot Mercer to the end, getting him almost 300 yards on the ground.

Albany’s resurgence can be credited to Mercer, who had 139 or more yards in each of their last four games. He had 159 carries for 1,285 yards after Friday’s game.

Wyatt Maize had 24 carries for 152 yards for the Panthers. After Friday’s game, Maize had 111 carries for 1,073 yards for the season, an average of 9.7 yards per carry. He successfully completed a hat trick, rushing for two touchdowns, throwing for one, and catching a touchdown pass. He is now the all-time leading rusher at Pattonsburg; Gage Iddings had 999 rushing yards in his two years as the quarterback for the Panthers. The single game rushing record for Pattonsburg belongs to Brody Langfitt, who had 275 yards in a game in 2021. Iddings rushed for 221 yards in Pattonsburg’s 90-66 win over Albany in 2023.

Worth County has had two players complete a hat-trick of throwing for a touchdown, rushing for a touchdown, and catching a touchdown pass. Vinny Fletchall did it once, as did Brevyn Ross.

The game was one where both sides tried to run each other off the football field. Both sides put up big numbers, made few mistakes, and had some big performances. Both sides turned the ball over just once.

For Pattonsburg, Gage Fortner completed 17 of 27 attempts for 290 yards and four scores. Wyatt Maize completed a 46-yard pass for a score.

Wyatt Maize had 3 catches for 56 yards. Camden Griffith had 8 catches for 121 yards. Drake Sperry had 1 catch for 3 yards. Gavin Humphrey, who always seems to save his best games for Albany, had 7 catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Humphrey had nearly 300 yards last year in Pattonsburg’s 76-72 loss to the Warriors, a game that almost derailed Albany’s undefeated season.

Jace Estrada had 12 tackles, 3 for loss. Camden Griffith had 10 tackles, 1 for loss. Wyatt Maize had 10, Ryker Fortner had a career-high 9, Gavin Humphrey 6, Alex Young and Collin Mason 4, Andrew Craig 3, Drake Sperry and Beau Gibson 2, and Kaos Sweiger 1.

For Albany, Jace Palmer completed 10 of 18 passes for 171 yards and ran 12 times for 35 yards. Elliot Mercer had 32 carries for 285 yards. Carter Dannar had 8 carries for 18 yards. Palmer’s improvement has been key as well for the Warriors; he gashed North Andrew for almost 200 yards to jump-start their three game winning streak and his 171 yards through the air Friday night was a career high.

Jared Owens had 1 catch for 14 yards for the Warriors. Zayden Palmer had 1 catch for 59 yards. Elliot Mercer had 2 catches for 20 yards. Carter Dannar had 3 catches for 53 yards. Will Fish had 3 catches for 25 yards.

Mercer did all he could for Albany on both sides of the ball, leading the Warriors with 13 tackles, two for loss. Porter Runnels had 8 tackles, one for loss, and one sack. Jay Anthony had 8, Jared Owens 5, Jace Palmer 4, Zayden Palmer and Kutter Peterson 3, and Carter Dannar and Clayton Griffin 2.

Albany snapped a three-game winning streak; they had gotten off to a bad start before suddenly getting it together against North Andrew, Princeton, and Stanberry. They will face Stanberry again Friday; the winner will travel to Worth County on November 7th.
