Worth County Junior High Teams Drop Two

Worth County's Junior High teams, playing some strong opposition, dropped two games in action last week. The girls fell to North Nodaway 50-18. The Mustangs featured a 6-footer and a 5'10 player and Worth County did not have an answer for those two. They gave up 22 unanswered points before they could score. Sidney Troutwine had 6 to lead the Tigers, followed by three each from Dominique Findley and Aubrey Ragan, both of whom hit 3-pointers. Payton Adwell, Brooklyn White, and Quinci Schottel each had two. One of the few bright spots for the night for the girls involved the "B" team, which won 6-4 over North Nodaway as Brooklyn White hit a shot that beat the buzzer for the win.

The Tigers lost 34-27 to Stanberry as they played closer, but still came up short. The Tigers trailed 15-11 at the break and then got production from Grace Schottel at the start of the second along with Sidney Troutwine to stay close, but they could never catch up. Quinci Schottel's banked 3-pointer in the fourth quarter got the Tigers as close as they could get, 26-24. They rallied again with 33 seconds left to cut it to 30-27, but Stanberry was able to run out the clock.

In boys action, Drake Kinsella's 27 points was not enough as the Tigers lost to North Nodaway 46-45 in overtime. North Nodaway hit a free throw that would have won it for them in regulation, but they were called for a lane violation to send it to overtime. North Nodaway then hit a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to win it. Video replays showed that the call by the officials was correct. Cade Allee had 6 for the Tigers, Mason Hawk 5, Ryan McClellan 2, and Wayde Parman 2. North Nodaway had eight 3-pointers for the night.

Against Stanberry, a late rally by the Tigers against a team that had beaten the Mustangs came up just short as they could not erase a 10-point deficit. Drake Kinsella once again led for the Tigers with 10 points, while Ryan McClellan had his best game of the year and added 8 more. Cade Allee added 7 and Mason Hawk and Wayde Parman added 2 each.
