The Grant City Council approved a plan to fix their water tower following a report showing rust within the tower. The city will treat rust that has built up around the seams of the tower. The council took action at a special meeting Thursday night. There are cracks from when they poured in the base and built the tower; the council will monitor the cracks in order to save costs since there are no leaks coming from out of the cracks. There were concerns about the 120 foot depth of the tower; however, the city can lower the water level in the tower a little bit. If possible, the city will fix a manhole cover as well.
In other action, the city learned from their insurance carrier that there were no major liability issues and that there were no objections from homeowners for the upcoming Safe Halloween Trick or Treat Event on High Street. The city voted to give final approval for the plan to close High Street. It was proposed at one point to close High Street up to the Methodist Church; however, that would have blocked in emergency units. Therefore, they will close High Street from the Christian Church to Lover's Lane. Children will still be asked to use the sidewalks during the event and not the streets. There will be two hayrides planned for Grant City that night as well.
The city also gave permission for the Worth County FCCLA to mark off streets for their 5k run/walk for breast cancer awareness that was held Saturday, October 27th.
