Erma Gene Berg, 83, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of
Parnell, Missouri died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Golden Living Center,
Maryville.
Erma was born September 29, 1929, at Parnell, to
Donald and Vesta Killam Stutesman.
She attended Bunker Hill country school and graduated
from Parnell High School in 1947. She attended Northwest Missouri Teachers'
College, Maryville, and taught 3 years for the Snowball country school in
Independence Township.
She married Francis Berg on May 28, 1949 in Parnell.
They had celebrated their 63rd anniversary.
Erma was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church,
Parnell and attended St. Gregory Catholic Church after moving to Maryville.
Erma was a homemaker and farmer. While Francis was
serving in the Marines in Korea, she worked as a secretary for the Kansas City
Police Department.
She had a passion for riding horses. For years she
showed her horses in the surrounding communities. Later she rode in many trail
rides and also rode in parades on her horses and pony drawn buggy. She was the
secretary of the Bedford Saddle Club for many years.
She played country western music on her keyboard for
several years at fairs, senior centers, nursing homes and family sing-a-longs.
She also sang at local music shows. Other passions were dancing and coon
hunting.
She enjoyed playing cards with family, friends and
neighbors. Her other talents were sewing and making quilts, electrician,
plumber, carpenter, cooking, especially making pies and homemade ice cream, and
she put on many memorable weinie roasts.
Preceding in death were her parents.
Survivors include husband Francis Berg, daughters,
Peggy (Don) Lantz, Harlan, Iowa
Patty (Steve) Paxson, Sheridan, Missouri
Sisters, Joan Schmitz and Donna Auffert, Parnell,
Grandchildren Jason and Janelle Lantz, Tanya (Brad)
Hill, and Tyler (Sharon) Paxson, and Great Grandchildren Brylea and Hardie
Paxson, and Wyatt and Weston Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held 5-7:00 PM at the Price
Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, Friday, October 5, 2012 followed by a rosary at
7:00 PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday,
October 6 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell with burial following at
the St. Joseph Cemetery, Parnell.
