Tigers Gain 52-6 Win over Knights on Senior Night

Worth County's football team won on senior night 52-6 in a game that ended at halftime to set up a 275 conference title showdown with Stanberry next Friday at Stanberry. The Tigers are in control of their own destiny thanks to Stanberry's win over Rock Port in the 275 Conference Race. The winless Knights were the last easy contest of the year for Worth County. The Tigers must beat Stanberry and a solid Tarkio squad in the next two weeks in order to clinch at least a share of the 275 Conference Title. Then, the Tigers will likely have to turn right around and face Tarkio again in two weeks regardless of the results since the Tigers and Indians are 2-3 in the district. Worth County did something similar last year when they beat Stanberry on their home field on the last game of the year and then had to turn around and do it again two weeks later in their race for the state title.

Tanner Chaney fooled everyone with a counter sweep that the Tigers had not seen before and picked up several yards, but the Knights went three and out as Ethan Schmitz stuffed a keeper. Worth County had a short field to work with for much of the night and forced four South Holt turnovers while not surrendering the ball at all on their end. A bad snap resulted in a hurried kick and Worth County set up shop in South Holt territory at the 38 to start their first possession. Cole Parman took a sprint option down to the 23 and then Dallas Greenland followed the blocks of Austin Carlson and Aaron Patton for five more down to the 18. Aaron caught a pass for 11 down to the 7 and then Dallas Greenland swept in for the score with 9:14 left behind a block from Wyatt Rush. Wyatt Rush and Kevin Stoll provided the blocks for Dallas to get into the end zone for the extra points to make it 8-0 with 9:14 left in the first.

South Holt committed the first of four turnovers as they fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Cole Parman recovered at the Knight 20. The Tigers only needed one play to score as The General got behind the defense for a long pass from Bryce Ross. Ross took in the option for the extra points as nobody was within five yards of him on the cutback to make it 16-0 with 9:04 left.

Worth County scored their third touchdown in less than a minute as Andrew Mullock picked off a pass on the carom and returned it to the South Holt 27 on their first play from scrimmage. A holding penalty wiped out a long touchdown, but Bryce Ross and Aaron Patton hooked up again for 34 yards and then Bryce outran everyone for the extra points to make it 24-0 with 8:26 left in the first quarter.

South Holt showed they could move the ball if they could take care of it as a 24-yard pass to Tanner Cheney and an 11-yard keeper by Mitch Mueller set up first and goal at the Tiger 10. But then Tyler Schmitz and Lane Craven combined to throw Mueller for a loss of three on the next play and then a screen pass that might have gone for a score was dropped. Wyatt Rush then hit Mueller as he was throwing and Andrew Mullock was there again to pick it off and return it to the 21. Mueller was hit several times as he was throwing for the night.

Worth County backed themselves up with some penalties and was forced to punt for the only time of the night, but Aaron Patton had a booming punt under a rush that rolled a long ways and was downed at the 16 to set up a long field. Kevin Stoll got a sack on the next play to force South Holt to punt and the Tigers got the short field once again at the Knights 37. This time, Andrew Mullock got a block from Josh Warner and got loose for a 42-yard score with 39.9 seconds left in the period. Bryce Ross got a block from Kevin Stoll and ran in the extra points to make it 32-0.

Tobin Sisk's 18 yard run to the Tiger 22 set up another South Holt scoring threat, but the drive was stopped as Wyatt Rush and Ethan Schmitz combined on a sack and the Knights gave up the ball on downs at the Tiger 27. Aaron Patton's 21-yard catch and run put the Tigers into Knight territory at the 34 and then Dallas Greenland got a touchdown reminiscent of Eli Mullock's game-winning score against Stanberry in the regular season last year when he nearly lost his balance at the 10 down the left side of the field, but somehow managed to keep his balance and stay inbounds and score. Kevin Stoll lined up as a wingback and his sweep and a block from Wyatt Rush put him in the end zone to make it 40-0 with 8:23 left.

South Holt once again went three and out and shanked a punt that gave Worth County a short field to work with at the Knights 35. They only needed three plays to score as Bryce Ross took a counter sweep down the right side and outran everyone into the end zone to make it 46-0 with 5:42 left. South Holt drove down to the Worth County 30 against the JV, but they held there and Worth County got the ball back on downs. A 35-yard run from Brevyn Ross behind a block from Truman Moore set up Worth County's final score, a cutback run from Cole Parman with 2:57 left to make it 52-0. South Holt drove against the Worth County JV and scored with 12.1 seconds left in the game, but Ben Badell stopped Mueller short on the two point conversion to preserve the 45-point margin and end the game at halftime.
