Moment of Silence for Dead Student at NW Volleyball Game

Tomarken Smith, the Northwest Missouri State student who was killed Friday morning, was remembered at the Northwest Missouri State Volleyball game that evening. He was killed following an assault outside Molly's. Two people have been charged in conjunction with his death. A candlelight vigil was also held that evening at the campus.

The game itself was insignificant in light of the tragedy, but Northwest's volleyball team won 3-0 over conference newcomer Lindenwood as Northwest had narrow but firm control throughout each of their sets. Northwest trailed 15-14 in the first set, but scored six straight points to take control of the match. Northwest would play evenly with the Lions and then take control in the middle and later stages of the match. They went on to win 25-20.

Northwest fell behind in the second set 16-11, but Brooke Bartosh got a tip to spark a rally and Northwest went on a 7-1 run to get back in control. Northwest scored the last three points to win 25-22. Northwest led from start to finish in the third set.

Northwest is off to a promising start, moving to 6-4 with the win and 2-0 in the MIAA. They were led by Brooke Bartosh with 11 kills, Abby Graves with 9, and Mackie Keller with 7.
