Worth County survived an off night from Tyler New as they beat Princeton 57-51 Tuesday night. Both teams were red hot, and the Blue Tigers and Talan Holt came in with only two losses for the year, against Green City and Platte Valley. Worth County dug itself into an early hole against Princeton before fighting back throughout the game. But Princeton seemingly regained control in the fourth quarter and led 47-40 midway through the period before Worth County came back and got the win.
Against North Andrew, Gilman City, and Princeton, the same pattern emerged; Worth County fell behind late, only to fight back and get the win late in the game.
Throughout the year, the Tigers have needed someone in the supporting cast to step up and do well, and Caleb New did so Tuesday, getting 17 points. Tyler New had 14, a good night for most players, but well below his average. Cole Ruby had 9, Hayden Sanders 7, Karson Briner 6, and Bo Collins 4 to round out the scoring.
Tyler New was 4 of 11 from the field, but the rest of the team was 14 of 27 to make up for it. As a team, the Tigers were 18 of 38 from the field for 47%.
Worth County was 11 of 19 from downtown. Caleb New had 5 3-pointers, Cole Ruby 3, Tyler New 2, and Hayden Sanders 1. The Tigers were able to close out the game from the line, where they shot 10 of 13. Paradoxically, they shot 58% from outside the 3-point arc and only 37% from inside the arc.
Tyler New had 10 points to complete a double double. Karson Briner had 7, Bo Collins 6, and Cole Ruby 1.
Tyler New nearly had a triple double as he had 7 assists. Cole Ruby and Bo Collins had 3 each and Karson Briner 2.
Tyler New had 3 steals and Caleb New 1.
Karson Briner had 1 block.
Tyler New had 2 tips. Cole Ruby, Caleb New, Karson Briner, and Bo Collins each had 1.
