Doris Holste 1928-2024

Doris Lorene (Cullison) Holste, 95, of Maryville, Missouri, and formerly of Hopkins, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024, at Oak Pointe in Maryville, Missouri, with family at her side.

Doris was born in Clarinda, Iowa, on January 15, 1928, to Ernest and Blanch (McNutt) Cullison.  She graduated from Clarinda High School.  Doris married Warren William “Bill” Holste in Troy, Kansas, on March 24, 1945.  The family lived in Iowa before settling on two farms near Hopkins, Missouri.  

She was of the Christian faith and had been a member of both the Hopkins Baptist and Wray Memorial United Methodist Churches of Hopkins.

Throughout her life, Doris enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.  She also spent many years providing childcare for Nacaela (Greeley) Berndt, Jacob Greeley, and Erin (Greeley) Rinehart who she loved as her own grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in April of 1997; her parents; 2 sisters, Ruth Beery and Betty Smith; her grandson Kyle Carmichael; and great grandson Ben Pritchard.

Her survivors include her children, Nancy David, Carol (Kirby) Carmichael, and Michael (Nancy) Holste; 5 grandchildren, Hayley (Troy) Slagle, Amy (Jeff) Guilett, Heather Cooper, Stephanie (Dave Slobotshi) Prichard, and Katie David; 6 great grandchildren, Andrew, Allison and Aiden Slagle, Rylan David, Noah Pritchard, Jason and Claire Guilett, and Jasper Carmichael, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri. The burial will follow in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. 

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Bram Funeral Home.
