Payton Adwell, Iowa Central Tritons Off to 7-3 Start

Former Worth County softball player Payton Adwell and the Iowa Central Tritons are off to a 7-3 start this year. They have scored a lot of runs this year, including a 25-run outburst in their most recent outing.

Iowa Central 8, Pasco-Hernando State College 3
On January 25th, Iowa Central took a trip to Florida, where they won three out of four games. In their first game, they fell behind 1-0, but scored 1 in the second, three in the third, and three in the fourth to take a 7-1 win. Payton Adwell was 0 for 4 in the game, but scored a run. She caught Kallie Malloy, who came away with the complete game win, giving up 6 hits, walking two, and striking out four.

Iowa Central 11, St. John’s River State College 9
This one was a track meet, but Iowa Central took advantage of five Viking errors to get the win. They were ahead 9-5 after the top of the fourth, but St. John’s came back to tie it after five. Iowa Central pushed across two in the seventh for the win. Payton Adwell pinch-ran and scored a run.

Georgia Military 6, Iowa Central 2
The third game of the Clearwater (FL) trip, played on January 26th, saw the Tritons fall 6-2 as they made three errors and only had six hits. Payton Adwell was 0 for 3 in the game.

Iowa Central 6, Tallahassee Community College 3
Iowa Central got back on the winning track in their final game, winning 6-3. They were up 5-3 after three innings; the game then turned into a defensive struggle before the Tritons pushed across a run in the sixth to go to 3-1.

Iowa Central 4, Navarro College 1
On February 15th, Iowa Central went to the Cowtown Classic in Texas, where they played four more games. In their first, they broke open a 1-0 game with three in the fifth. Payton Adwell was 0 for 3, but had a walk. She caught Alex Boyce and Breanna Tjebben, who combined to allow 7 hits.

North Central 15, Iowa Central 7
North Central (TX) handed Iowa Central its first run rule loss in their second game as they took advantage of seven walks. Iowa Central was up 7-5 after the top of the fourth, but North Central (TX) proceeded to score six in the bottom of the inning, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth to put the game away.

Iowa Central 12, Ranger College 7
Iowa Central got back on the winning track with a 12-7 win in their third game at the Cowtown Classic in Texas. They jumped on top with four runs in the top of the first and kept the lead throughout. The game was a slugfest, with Iowa Central getting 16 hits and Ranger College getting 14. But Iowa Central took advantage of four errors to stay in front and broke it open in the fifth with three runs to go up 10-5. Payton Adwell was 1 for 3 in the game.

Iowa Central 7, Hill College 0
Iowa Central closed off their Texas trip by easily handling Hill College. They scored in all but two innings in the win. Payton Adwell was 0 for 1, and caught Kallie Malloy and Breanna Small, who combined on a three hit shutout and struck out five.

Southeast Community College 2, Iowa Central 1
Iowa Central made a trip to Rosemount (MN) on March 3rd. They dropped the first game of a double header 2-1, as pitching ace Kallie Malloy struck out 14, but the Tritons could only muster two hits against Southeast. Payton Adwell started and was 0 for 1. She also had a sacrifice hit.

Iowa Central 25, Southeast Community College 2
The game was as different as night and day as Iowa Central unloaded on Southeast, scoring seven in the first, ten in the second, and seven in the third as the teams played five innings. The Tritons got 24 hits in the win and took advantage of three errors and five walks. Payton Adwell had a walk.
