Geneva graduated from Hatfield High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University. After graduating she taught in rural schools for 3 years. She worked for Dr. R.J. Swift in Grant City 21 years. She was a member of the Grant City United Methodist Church, the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the M.E.W.C. Athenaeum.
She was united in marriage to Jack R. Andrews, June 26th, 1945 in Troy, KS. while Jack was on leave from the Army. They had 2 weeks together before Jack left to serve his country in WWII, not returning for about a year while he served in the Army of Occupation in Japan. They were blessed with 4 children, Jerry Len, deceased, Janet Sue Smith, Kansas City, MO., Joyce Kay Harpster, Forsyth, MO., and Scott Alan of Worth County, MO.
Geneva loved life and her family. Many memories were made over the years that will be cherished forever. Annual trips to the Lake of the Ozarks with a large contingent of family and friends, boats and food. 4th of July gatherings with large amounts of food, fireworks, shenanigans, and homemade ice cream. Christmas Eve gathering with much of the family at Grandma & Grandpa Groom’s house. Christmas gatherings with her house stuffed with kids and grandkids, gifts and the smell of her wonderful food. Going to Scott’s football games and all the pre and post-game meals that involved. Making donuts with Janet & Joyce where the kitchen was set up like an assembly line and the aromas were incredible. Geneva loved to cook and loved food. If you were around her much you would know her favorite food was fried chicken. Geneva had a wonderful life despite the normal human struggles and trials that came with it.
Preceding her in death were her husband Jack R. Andrews, son Jerry Len, mother Julia Groom, father Lorin Groom, brother Jack Groom and sister Gladys Jean Lynch.
She is survived by 3 children, Janet (Don) Smith, Joyce Harpster and Scott (Kimberly) Andrews; 5 granddaughters, Amy Dawn (Smith) Erickson, Liberty, MO., Kari Lyn (Smith) Chapman, Polo, MO., Alison Renee (Clark) Porter, Glenwood, IA., Jessica Lauren (Andrews) Foerster, Lannon, WI. and Johanna Elizabeth Andrews, Albany, MO.; 2 grandsons, Tyler Scott Harpster, Forsyth, MO. and Jack Keanan Andrews, Conover, NC.; 1 brother, Lorin (Doris) Groom, Jr., Lees Summit, MO.; 7 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters.
