Hali Smith Hexes Braymer Again as Shamrocks Win 48-20

Hali Smith saved her two best games of the year so far for Braymer, getting 19 points, 12 boards, and six steals against them after stealing the ball 12 times the first game as North Harrison beat the Bobcats for the second time this year, dropping them 48-20 Tuesday, January 13th in the South Harrison Tournament. Jaxcynn Hansel was the Queen of the Block Party for the Shamrocks, getting seven for the night. As a team, North Harrison blocked 15 shots.

Once again, Braymer made a concerted effort to get the ball into their post players, Natalie Wright and Nevaeh Scott, and once again, North Harrison turned back their efforts.

Abigail Smith’s free throw cut the Braymer deficit to 4-3, but Hali Smith hit a free throw, Ava Rinehart hit a 3-pointer, and Hali Smith took on three Bobcat defenders and scored to make it 10-5 after one.

Braymer got some good looks in the second quarter but was ice-cold and was stuck on five for a long time, while North Harrison steadily pulled away. Hali Smith drove and scored after Gracie Young skipped her the ball, Smith added a free throw after Gracie Young got her the ball, Smith got a putback, Jaxcynn Hansel skipped it to Ava Rinehart for her second 3-pointer of the night, and Lani Briggs, who had missed a ton of runners earlier in the half, finally got a 3-pointer to go down to make it 21-5.

Natalie Wright broke a long scoring drought for the Bobcats, only for Hali Smith to grab a putback and score to make it 23-7 at the half.

North Harrison had 34 boards and 8 blocks at the half.

Braymer tried to make use of their size in the second half and made a concerted effort to crash the boards, hanging around for the first few minutes of the second half. But then Gracie Young knocked down a baseline shot and Jaxcynn Hansel came out of a long slump to score off a drive to push the margin over 20 at 32-11. Wren Coats cut the Bobcat deficit down to 19, but Hali Smith scored the next six points to push it out to 38-13.

Once again, Braymer started crashing the boards hard and getting some putback chances, and Nevaeh Scott scored five straight to push the Bobcat deficit back down to 38-18. But Jaxcynn Hansel hit from the high post, Addison Milligan and Ava Rinehart both cut inside and scored, Lani Briggs finally got a runner to go down, and Addison Milligan knocked down a shot from the right wing as North Harrison won going away.

Hali Smith scored 19 points. Lani Briggs had 10, Ava Rinehart 9, Jaxcynn Hansel and Addison Milligan 4, and Gracie Young 2.

Jaxcynn Hansel had 7 blocks. Addison Milligan and Hali Smith had 3, and Gracie Young and Lani Briggs had 1.

Hali Smith had 12 boards. Jaxcynn Hansel had 11, Ava Rinehart 7, Addison Milligan 5, Lani Briggs 4, Gracie Young 3, and Raegan Hogan 2.

Hali Smith had 5 assists. Addison Milligan and Gracie Young had 3 and Ava Rinehart, Jaxcynn Hansel, and Lani Briggs had 2.

Addison Milligan had 8 tips. Hali Smith and Lani Briggs had 4, Gracie Young and Ava Rinehart had 2, and Jaxcynn Hansel had 1.

Hali Smith had 6 steals. Addison Milligan had 3, Ava Rinehart 2, and Gracie Young, Becca Welling, and Lani Briggs 1.
