Carolyn Kay Daniels Rush (86) was born May 25, 1939 to C.O. (Jabe) and Hallie Maudlin Daniels in Allendale, MO and died peacefully surrounded by her family January 18, 2026.
She grew up
in Allendale, attending the Allendale Elementary School and graduated from
Worth County High School, Grant City, MO in 1957. Carolyn attended Guard’s Business College, St.
Joseph, MO.
In 1957 Carolyn
married J.C. Gibson and to this union
two children were born, Sharon and Stephen.
They divorced in 1982. In 1984
she married Robert Rush, who preceded her in death in 2020.
Carolyn
served as Postmaster in Allendale, 1972 – 1979 then transferred to Parnell
where she retired in 2002 with over 30 years of service for the USPS.
Subsequent
to her retirement, Carolyn enjoyed traveling; among others, these trips
included Spain, Greece, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. She was a season ticketholder to the St.
Joseph Symphony for many years and volunteered as an ombudsman for nursing
homes in the area. She especially
enjoyed class reunions and birthday celebrations with her high school
classmates.
In
retirement she also enjoyed attending her grandson’s high school and college
football games. She was notorious for
ringing her cowbell to cheer them on.
Carolyn
accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the Allendale Baptist
Church and had been an active disciple her whole life.
She is
preceded in death by her parents, C.O. and Hallie Daniels, Husband, Robert
Rush.
She is
survived by her children, Sharon Olney (James) and Stephen Gibson (Kristy),
from Stilwell KS. Additional survivors
include grandchildren, Brandon and Brian Olney of Overland Park KS, and great-grandchildren,
Ava, Averie, Reese and Hudson Olney.
Memorial
Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral
Home in Grant City. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to service time.
Inurnment
will be at a later date.
In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Worth County Care and
Rehab Center in Carolyn’s honor.
