Caleb New sparked Worth County’s resurgence Thursday with a 26-point outburst in Worth County’s 71-40 win over North Harrison. Wyatt Maize did all he could for the Shamrocks, getting 15, but it wasn’t enough.
Worth County came into the game mired in a three-game losing streak and having lost five out of their last seven despite getting Cole Ruby back from an injury. But Cole sparked the Tigers early with five quick points as they opened the game with a 7-0 run.
North Harrison hung around for a while, getting baskets from Wyatt Maize, Andrew Craig, and Ryker Fortner to keep it close as the Tigers took a 14-8 lead after one. But then Hayden Sanders scored nine straight, all from downtown and all off assists by Caleb New, to turn it into a 23-8 lead.
Wyatt Maize scored seven points in the second to try to keep North Harrison close, but Caleb New had the hot hand for the Tigers, getting 11 in the period as they pulled away to a 36-17 lead at the half.
And once North Harrison got Caleb New slowed down, Brock Healy got the hot hand in the third quarter, getting 11 points in the period. Jensen Davis got untracked for North Harrison with five in the period, and Ryker Fortner hit his second triple of the night, but Worth County pulled away to a 57-28 lead after three. Hayden Sanders chipped in with four, Ryder Smyser got on the board, and Cole Ruby added two more.
Jordan Dannar and Dylan Smith got on the board for Worth County from the line in the fourth quarter as they continued to pull away and spark the running clock at 60-30. Dustin Hamilton got on the board for North Harrison to kill the running clock, and Gage Fortner got the hot hand with five points in the period, but Caleb New scored seven in the period to keep the Tigers comfortably ahead. Jordan Dannar hit a pair of free throws and Wes Brown got on the board to reestablish the running clock.
Caleb New had 26 points for the Tigers. Brock Healy had 14, Hayden Sanders 13, Cole Ruby 7, Jordan Dannar 3, and Ethan Lininger, Ryder Smyser, Dylan Smith, and Wes Brown had 2.
Cole Ruby had 1 block.
Caleb New had 9 boards. Cole Ruby had 8, Ryder Smyser 5, Brock Healy and Dylan Smith 3, Ethan Lininger and Hayden Sanders 2, and Brayden Combs 1.
Hayden Sanders had 7 assists. Cole Ruby and Caleb New had 5, Brock Healy 4, Dylan Smith and Brayden Combs 2, and Ethan Lininger and Jordan Dannar 1 each.
Cole Ruby had 3 tips. Brock Healy had 2 and Caleb New and Hayden Sanders had 1.

For North Harrison, Wyatt Maize had 15, Gage Fortner 8, Ryker Fortner and Jensen Davis 6, Dustin Hamilton 3, and Andrew Craig 2.

Tiger JV 23, North Harrison 19
The Junior Varsity game was much more exciting. First, the Tigers jumped out to a 6-2 lead as Dylan Smith got loose in transition, Ethan Lininger grabbed an offensive board and hit two free throws, and Jordan Dannar got a putback. Tate Richardson knotted it up with a 3-pointer late in the first quarter, but Worth County regained the lead when Jordan Dannar knocked down a shot from the wing after Wes Brown inbounded him the ball and Jordan slashed to the rim to start the second quarter to make it 12-8.
At that point, Worth County was completely outplaying North Harrison on the floor, running up big margins in rebounding, tips, and steals. But somehow, it was North Harrison who found itself ahead when Tate Richardson threatened to take over the game, slashing to the basket, getting a steal and drive, and slashing again and converting a three point play to put the Shamrocks in front 15-12.
Worth County started swarming and pressing, and Wes Brown scored off an Ethan Lininger steal, but the Shamrocks remained ahead 17-14 after Kayson Sims and Tate Richardson hit free throws. But then Dylan Smith went backdoor and scored and then Meric Hansel got a bloody nose, forcing him out of the game and leaving the Shamrocks with four players as Kyler Kimbrough had banged his head on the floor and left the game earlier.
Jacoby Ballard hit two free throws with 1:05 left to keep North Harrison ahead 19-16, but then Dylan Smith got a pass from Jordan Dannar and scored to make it 19-18. North Harrison missed two free throws and then Tucker Fletchall, who had not scored all game, made them pay with a 3-pointer to put Worth County in front 21-19. Worth County got the ball back and Dylan Smith scored to seal the game.
Dylan Smith had 8 points for the Tigers. Jordan Dannar had 6, Ethan Lininger 4, Tucker Fletchall 3, and Wes Brown 2.
