Audrey Runde Scores 14 in Tiger Comeback Win; Hali Smith Bright Spot for Shamrocks With 13

North Harrison had Worth County on the ropes, but the Tigers wiped out a ten point fourth quarter deficit, grabbing a 43-37 comeback win against the Shamrocks in a game that took on all the intensity of the district title games from 2018 and 2004. Audrey Runde scored 14 in the win, while Hali Smith did all she could for the Shamrocks, getting 13.

With the win, the Tigers raised their record to 13-4. Their magic number for clinching a winning season is at one game with ten games left in the regular season.

Both teams traded early blows in the first quarter. But despite six points from Runde in the period for Worth County, North Harrison started pulling away after Jaxcynn Hansel scored six straight to close out the period. Worth County didn’t get a single tip or steal until late in the period.

Ava Rinehart’s steal and drive put North Harrison up 15-8 early in the second, but back to back jacks from Megan Tracy got the Tigers right back in the game at 15-14 with 3:43 left in the half. But then Ava Rinehart dropped a triple from the top of the key and Lani Briggs added another in transition. With time winding down in the first half, Jaxcynn Hansel got a steal and fed Lani Briggs, who went coast to coast for a layup at the buzzer to put the Shamrocks up 23-14.

With the Tiger foul trouble mounting, Hali Smith hit a 3-pointer to put the Shamrocks up 30-20 at the 2:23 mark of the third. Kristen Tracy knocked one down from the high post to cut it to 32-24, but Lani Briggs’ steal at the start of the fourth made it 34-24.

The scoreboard was stuck there for the next three minutes as Kristen Tracy picked up her fourth foul and Kambree Briner was at three. But then North Harrison started getting into foul trouble of their own as Kristen Tracy got loose in transition and drew a foul and hit two free throws. Kambree Briner then twice hit Audrey Runde driving to the basket, and Runde drew fouls and went four for four from the line to make it 34-30.

Kambree Briner picked up her fourth foul and Ava Rinehart hit a backdoor layup with 2:24 left to make it 36-30, but Hali Smith came off limping shortly afterwards as Megan Tracy got a steal. Kambree Briner drove and scored with 1:36 left to cut it to 36-32. Hali came back, and both teams exchanged missed shots and turnovers until Rylee Ruckman, who had not scored all night for the Tigers, suddenly hit a 3-pointer to make it 36-35 with 56 seconds left.

With 50 seconds left, Kristen Tracy dove on the floor for a loose ball and a tieup went back to Worth County. Worth County missed several tries at the basket before Kristen Tracy finally converted a three point play to put Worth County up 38-36 with 39 seconds left.

After North Harrison threw it away, the Shamrocks were forced to foul, and Kambree Briner hit both free throws with 32 seconds left to make it 40-36.

Hali Smith tried to take on Kambree Briner, who had four fouls, and tried to dish it off to Jaxcynn Hansel. But Kristen Tracy dove on the floor to grab a steal with 23 seconds left. North Harrison pressed and knocked it away, but Tracy got it back, and Audrey Runde hit two free throws with 18 seconds left to make it 42-36. Hali Smith drew a foul and made one of two with 10 seconds left to make it 42-37. Rylee Ruckman got on the line for Worth County and made one of two to make it 43-37, and Kristen Tracy grabbed the offensive rebound to seal the game.
