Worth County Recognized for Zero Fatal Accidents in 2024

Matthew Stine, the new Area Engineer for this area for the Missouri Department of Transportation, introduced himself to the Worth County Commissioners Monday. While there, he presented an award to the county for having zero fatal accidents in 2024.

While there, he addressed questions on ongoing road construction work. He said that the Route M project near Denver is already paid for and that the DOT cannot keep roads closed due to lack of funds. “We’ll find some way to get it taken care of,” Mr. Stine said. The DOT typically sets aside contingency money in the event of emergency repair needs or change orders on existing projects. The construction project, initially slated for completion around the start of August, was pushed back to the end of August. That planned timetable is still in effect. Following the completion of that project, Route 169 will close for bridge repair work.

Route W near Oxford is closed for another bridge repair project done by a different contractor. The “Road Closed” signs were up as of Monday. The Marlowe Creek Bridge on Route 46 is currently slated to begin in March 2026.

Other transportation issues brought up to Mr. Stine Monday:

—There is a spot south of Worth on Route YY and a spot on Route K west of Grant City that is sinking in.

—A bump has developed on the approaches to the Route YY bridge between Worth and Grant City that was completed a few years ago.

The commission voted to authorize Treasurer Stephanie Hardy to access the safe deposit box at the bank.

Road & Bridge Foreman Jim Fletchall reported that there would once again be rock from the Norris Quarry between Parnell and Ravenwood later this month.

The red truck was using more and more water. The commissioners authorized Mr. Fletchall to get the truck looked at. The white truck blew a fan belt, which was fixed.

Brush enforcement was discussed. Several owners who had brush letters were working on clearing brush from their roads. A road south of Allendale is a new candidate for brush letters.
