Nodaway County

U.S. Route 71 – Resurfacing project from the Iowa state line to U.S. Route 136 near Burlington Junction through August 2026. The road will be narrowed to one lane, and a 10-foot width restriction will be in place.

Route KK – CLOSED for a culvert replacement from U.S. Route 136 to 180th Street, Aug. 6, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route KK – CLOSED for a culvert replacement from 180th Street to 170th Street, Aug. 7, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route AH – Culvert repairs from Route VV to Route M, Aug. 4, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The roadway will be narrowed to one lane with flaggers.

Route M – Bridge deck repairs at the bridge over the Platte River, Aug. 5-6. The bridge will be narrowed to one lane around the clock, with temporary traffic signals in place and a 10-foot width restriction.  

 

Data Center Discussion Focuses on DNR Permit Application

Following passage of the data center moratorium by the Nodaway County Commission, discussion focused on the recent Scale Microgrids application of a permit to generate and sell energy to the grid with the Missouri DNR. “Evergy is not getting any tax abatements for their project, so why should White Cloud Generating,” asked Scott Wilson. “We were told these generators would run three hours; now, they are set to run 24 hours a day.”

The data center project south of Maryville is being split into two projects. One is under White Cloud Acres, which would run the data center, and White Cloud Generating, which would run the generator system, which it says would sell electricity to the grid for the purpose of developing enough capacity for the grid to support a data center.

Mike Wilson expressed the concern expressed by many that the recently-passed moratorium would not affect the generator portion of the project, since it is being run by a completely different entity, although they are both under the same developer. The moratorium specifically mentions data centers and not any other entity.

“They know exactly what their plans are,” said Susie Strauch. “We don’t.”

Presiding Commissioner Bill Walker said the next step was to look at the proposed development agreement being drawn up by the county attorney, Travis Elliott. As for an extension of the six-month moratorium, “We’ll see where we’re at,” he said.

The topic of sound came up as well. Commissioner Scott Walk said that the data center company is establishing a baseline of sound so they can measure the sound of the data center. Any sound above the baseline would be sound emitted by the facility. They are doing this during the daytime, when there is a lot of truck traffic, and during the night. The company pledged at its June meeting in one of its flyers to keep the sound of the proposed facility to under 50 decibels.

Other discussion focused on the J-turns that the DOT is putting in all over the state.  They are putting one in near where the proposed data center would  be. In a recent news release on its periodic newsletter, “Express Lane,” the DOT included a piece explaining why it believes J-turns are safer. Commissioner Chris Burns said they have been putting them in all over the state, not just on 71. The participants at Thursday’s meeting were not convinced. “I don’t care if they’re saying it’s safer; it’s not,” said Susie Strauch, citing what she said would be increased truck, tractor, and combine traffic on roads like 71.

I-35 – Concrete replacement southbound between mile markers 79-74, June 29-July 2. The road will be narrowed to one lane around the clock.

I-35 – Pothole patching both directions from the 85.0 mile marker to the 61.0 mile marker, June 30-July 2.

Harrison County

Route W – Resurfacing project June 24- July 14. The roadway may be CLOSED or narrowed to one lane with flaggers. (Contractor: Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc.)

Route D – Resurfacing project June 26-July 20. The roadway may be CLOSED or narrowed to one lane with flaggers. (Contractor: Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc.)

Route U – CLOSED for a culvert replacement from northbound U.S. Route 71 to Jett Road, July 1-2, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Route C – Ditching from U.S. Route 71 to Dynasty Road, July 1-2. The road will be narrowed to one lane, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. 

 

Daviess County Scrub Seal Project to Start June 29th

The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Vance Brothers, Inc. to complete scrub seals on Daviess County U.S. Route 69/Route 6 from Interstate 35 to Route V and Linn County U.S. Route 36 from Route 139 to the Macon County line. The project schedule is as follows:

Daviess County U.S. Route 69/Route 6: June 29-July 6

Linn County U.S. Route 36: July 7-24

Traffic Impacts:

U.S. Route 69/Route 6 – traffic may be narrowed to one lane with flaggers and a pilot car directing traffic. A 12-foot width restriction will be in place through Trenton.

U.S. Route 36 – traffic will be narrowed to one lane in each direction. A 16-foot width restriction will be in place.

Seven Area Roads to be Resurfaced

The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. to resurface seven routes in Nodaway, Andrew, Gentry, Harrison and Daviess counties. Crews plan to begin by milling roadway approaches on all routes June 19-22 and resurface each route as follows:

Nodaway/Andrew County Route J: June 22 – July 6

Gentry County Route UU: June 29 – July 7

Gentry County Route P: July 2 – 13

Harrison County Route P: July 7 – 17

Daviess County Route C: July 13 – 23

Harrison County Route D: July 17 – Aug. 3

Harrison County Route W: July 27 – Aug. 13

Traffic Impacts: During paving, each roadway may be closed or narrowed to one lane with flaggers directing traffic. Motorists should seek an alternate route.

Marlowe Creek Bridge on Route 46 Now Open

The Marlowe Creek Bridge on Worth County Missouri Route 46, west of Grant City, is now open. Contractors from Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, reopened the bridge to traffic today, Monday, May 18, following a replacement project.

As a part of this project, the West Fork Grand River Bridge replacement on Route W in Worth County was completed on Feb. 12.
