Cole Ruby, Lucas Frisch, and Bo Collins put on a show Friday as the Tigers swept their jamboree, dropping Albany, Stanberry, and King City.
Tigers 18, Albany 6
At first, it looked like it would be a long night for the Tigers as Jace Palmer gashed the Tigers for 26 yards and a counter to Carter Dannar did the rest. But after an Elliot Mercer touchdown run was wiped out by a penalty, the Tigers started to wake up defensively and shut down Albany the rest of the way. Sawyer Thurman dropped Dannar and broke up a pass play for Albany's last two varsity possessions. For the junior varsity, Wyatt Scadden and Caleb New combined on a big hit on one play and Jordan Dannar blew up another.
Brayden Stevens was dropped on the varsity offense's first play, but then a busted play turned into gold as Cole Ruby got the ball following a mixup on a handoff and ripped off 20 yards down to the 10. Hayden Sanders got blocks from Ryder Smyser and Ethan Lininger to take it to the house. A short pass to Jude Archer, a nine yard run from Cole Ruby, and a four yard keeper by Hayden Sanders got it to the 16, where Lucas Frisch was beheaded by an Albany defender but still held on to the ball to make it 12-6.
For the reserves, Brock Healy aired it out to Wyatt Scadden; the Tigers may have found a new receiver in Scadden as he outran his defender down to the three. Healy then had a perfect fake and pitched it to Scadden, who took it to the house to make it 18-6. Worth County nearly scored again as the Tigers may have found another wide receiver. Caleb New caught another long ball from Healy and took it 20 yards to the three before the Tigers ran out of plays.
Tigers 18, Stanberry 0
Worth County jumped out early on Stanberry. Having Bo Collins back at his normal end position made a huge difference for the Tigers as he made a 22 yard grab down to the eight. That set up Cole Ruby, who spun off a defender to the house to make it 6-0. Cole Ruby then waited on a hole and then shot through it like Ryan Hackett used to do for West Nodaway 30 years ago, picking up 21 yards down to the 14. The only blemish for the Tigers was two long runs that got called back by penalties, something they will have to clean up before next week. But the second stringers picked up the first stringers as Brock Healy aired it out to Caleb New and then Wyatt Scadden for long scores as they both outran their defenders.
Lance Runde, Caleb New, and Jordan Dannar got big hits for the reserve defense. Stanberry completed a 14 yard pass to Aiden Graham to get to the 14, but the varsity made a stand as Bo Collins and Ryder Smyser made tackles for losses before Brayden Stevens got a pick to kill the drive. Ethan Lininger and Ryder Smyser made hard tackles to end the night for Stanberry.
Tigers 12, King City 6
Bo Collins caught a 24 yard pass down to the six before Jude Archer was stopped just short of the goal line in Worth County's first try at the goal for the varsity. But Lucas Frisch got the Tigers on the board with a long pass to make it 6-0. Worth County nearly scored again as Bo Collins made a circus catch at the 3 on the varsity's final play of the night.
Wyatt Scadden outran everybody to make it 12-0. The reserves almost got another as Jordan Dannar shot past the initial surge of defenders and ripped off 18 yards down to the seven before Brock Healy's desperation toss was picked off by Isaac King.
Xander Bodle, the littlest guy on the team, got a fumble recovery for the reserves on defense. Caleb New had a tackle for a loss. For the varsity, Brayden Stevens broke up a pas, as did Jude Archer. Lucas Frisch and Wyatt Hill combined to blow up an option play, while Bo Collins flushed Landon Carson out of the pocket on another into the arms of Ethan Lininger, who tripped him up. King City got their lone tally on the last play of the night, when Carlson aired it out to Ryder Sample. Brayden Stevens covered it perfectly, but the ball dropped in perfectly to Sample for a score.
