On July 28th, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call regarding a shooting in Princeton. Members of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Northwest Missouri Drug Task Force were involved. The victim was lifeflighted to Mosaic in St. Joseph.
Subsequently, Des Moines County authorities arrested Thomas Randall Cross in conjunction with the shooting after finding him in a wooded area in Des Moines County (IA). He was subsequently charged with Assault (Felony), Armed Criminal Action (Felony), and Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony). Bond was denied.
A nationwide alert had been issued and information received led to his arrest near Des Moines.
An affidavit from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department alleges that the defendant and the victim were neighbors and that a disagreement had led to the shooting.
Cross was facing previous charges of Tampering with Utility Meter. An affidavit from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department alleges that on June 4th, the defendant tampered with a water utility meter and diverted water from the utility to his home. The defendant has pleaded not guilty to that charge.
Charges listed are merely allegations. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented in a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine innocence or guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
