2.6 Million Pieces of Mail Delayed in St. Louis in Two Days

While Kansas City’s mail delay problems have been in the news, Rep. Sam Graves focused on the problems at the St. Louis facility in an August 14th Facebook post.

Recently, the USPS Office of Inspector General conducted an audit at the St. Louis facility over the last three months. They reported that in just two days in June, almost 2.6 million pieces of mail were delayed; however, as quoted by Rep. Graves, the report said that they only reported that 1.5 million pieces were delayed.

In addition, the report said that over 50% of all outbound mail trips from the St. Louis processing facility were either late or canceled.

“Management acknowledges that there were issues and promised to fix them. That’s not gonna cut it. It’s time for management to go and the Postal Service needs to overhaul this facility completely, so Northeast Missouri can start getting their mail on time again,” said Rep. Graves.

The report identified multiple causes, including employee availability, insufficient oversight, and processing inefficiencies. For instance, during the week of May 14th, the facility had 145 vacancies.
