Dustin Rowen, Kendra Ruby Get Engaged at Defiance Days Parade

Dustin Rowen and Kendra Ruby became engaged at the Defiance Days Parade Saturday. Dustin and his big Rowen Fencing rig were bringing up the rear of the parade when he stopped the truck in the middle of the road. Everyone thought he was having mechanical trouble, but instead, he brought Kendra out into the street and proposed to her right in front of everyone, slipping a ring on her finger. She said yes.

The sweltering heat kept some away, but the event went on as scheduled. The Back 40 continued in full swing, and there were other food vendors as well. Brylee Rush, who is about to graduate from cosmetology school, was showing off her skills inside the community building. The Sheridan CBC was serving a meal there. The Double E box auction was in full swing, with Brandon Allee talking bidders out of their money as usual.

Earlier, State Rep. Mazzie Christiansen raised the flag with the help of Taylor Ridge, a former Marine. Christiansen herself has a lot of family who were in the Marines.

Megan Cassavaugh and Brianna Riley presented the American and Missouri flags at the start of the parade. Brianna's grandfather, Gary Hawk, presented the flag for many years at the parade. Tri-State Ford, MFA Oil, the Sheridan Christian Church, and Burns Racing were among the entries. Gary Rush brought his Rush Special pickup. J.C. Ware of Hopkins showed off his orange antique tractor.
