Obituary -- Gloria Nightwine 1950-2021

On Saturday May 1, 2021 Gloria Ann Nightwine passed away at the young age of 70.  Gloria was born December 18, 1950 in Maryville, Missouri. She was a wonderful Christmas present to her parents, John and Christina Scroggie.  She graduated from North Nodaway High School in Hopkins, MO.

As an infant she contracted polio.  This established a will to survive at an early age.  If you asked her heritage, both she and her mom would tell you gypsy.  She worked at Mobil Oil, NEBS, Cimarron Lumber, World Span and the Platte County Sherrif’s Department.  With these jobs she lived in Lee’s Summit, Maryville, Lathrop, Platte City, Smithville and Kansas City. With all that moving you’d have to believe she was a gyspy.  All the while, she made life long friends everywhere she went. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, although the grandkids typically came first. She loved to travel. Whether with her job taking her to London, Spain and Italy, or hopping on the Harley to go to Sturgis or New Mexico, she enjoyed seeing new places.  She was the kind of person who would be there in a moments notice to help family or a friend. She was surrounded by love her entire life because of the love she gave. Though cancer took her away from us too soon, it will never take away the love she had or the legend she left behind. She fought a good fight and lived a good life.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Christina Scroggie; her brother in law Dick Wallace; and her in laws, Dale and Louise Nightwine.  She is survived by her husband Scott Nightwine; her son Tony (Pam) Burns; 2 grandchildren, Jacob Burns and Lily Burns; 4 siblings Denise Wallace, Twila (Mark) Swinford, Ronald (Deanna) Scroggie and Carla (Dennis) Schmitz.  She is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family has a private graveside service planned for May 15, 2021.
