Mustangs Beat East Harrison 13-3 for Senior Night Win

North Nodaway overcame a ragged start and Andrew Blackford shut out the winless Bobcats over the last three innings as the Mustangs pulled away for the 13-3 win in five innings. The game was the last home game for seniors Cody Cline, Dakota Wray, Andrew Blackford, Karson Oberhauser, Jordan Jenkins, and managers Jadon Dobbins and Karissa Oberhauser. The game was the third win of the year for the Mustangs.

With both teams searching for a rare win, East Harrison made a bid to get out of the gates fast as Trace Gibson singled up the middle to start the game and went to second on a wild pitch. Adam Rinehart grounded out to advance him to third, and Mark Willis reached first on a tricky grounder as Gibson scored. Diesel Boswell grounded out, but Michelle Boswell and Grayson McFall both walked on 3-2 pitches to set up a potential big inning before Brayden Eakes struck out looking to end the threat with East Harrison up 1-0.

But three Bobcat errors in the Mustang first scored Jordan Jenkins and Andrew Blackford to put the Mustangs up 2-1. Dakota Wray provided the big blow for the Bobcats as his pop fly into right field dropped in and two runs scored to make it 4-1. Errors turned out to be costly for the Bobcats; they committed nine in the game.

Jacoby Roberts singled past third to start the Bobcat second and went to second on a wild pitch. Landon Willis walked and Roberts went to third on a wild pitch. Trace Gibson reached on an error to score Roberts to make it 4-2 and put runners on first and second. That set up a potential big inning, since the top of the Bobcat order was coming up, but Adam Rinehart grounded into a forceout to Keegan Keho at third. Mark Willis grounded into a force play at second, but North Nodaway threw away the double play try as Gibson scored to make it 4-3. Willis went to third on a wild pitch with the tying run, but Diesel Boswell grounded out to Keho at third to keep North Nodaway in front.

North Nodaway couldn’t score in their half of the second, but Andrew Blackford settled down and started throwing strikes, getting the Bobcats 1-2-3 in the third.

With one out in the Mustang fourth, Cody Cline hit a pop fly that dropped before either the third baseman or shortstop could get to it as Cline was safe. Damian Dailey singled to left, and Cody Cline hustled it out to take third, making it safely. Keegan Keho grounded out to second and Damian Dailey made it all the way from first to third on the play. Ethan Fry reached on an error to score Dailey to make it 6-3. The inning ended on an unusual play as a pitched ball hit Andrew Blackford in the arm, who had two strikes on him. But since he was swinging the bat, it counted as strike three.

Karson Oberhauser got the hit of the day as he hit one into the wind and muscled it all the way to the left field wall for a double to start the Mustang fifth. Aydan Blackford singled home Oberhauser and went to second on an errant cutoff throw, which led to a balk and two more errors as the Mustangs pushed across six runs in the inning to make it 12-3. Andrew Blackford provided the big blow with a bad hop single past second that brought in two. Jordan Jenkins also had an RBI single.

North Nodaway scored the final run in the fifth when Ethan Fry forced Cody Cline at third, but the Bobcats didn’t have a play on Dakota Wray, coming home for the final run.
