Gage Fortner fanned 11 Princeton batters and North Harrison turned back their future football cooperative partners 3-1 Tuesday, April 21st. Tate Richardson got three hits for the Shamrocks and turned back Princeton after some anxious moments in the seventh to get the save. Kellan Craig added two hits for the Shamrocks.
Tate Richardson beat out an infield hit to start the game and stole second. Gage Fortner singled to right to score Richardson and put North Harrison up 1-0. Gage Fortner advanced to second on defensive indifference and to third on a passed ball. He later stole home to put North Harrison up 2-0.
Bowe Ussery singled to right; Kyler Kimbrough tried to throw to first to get the out, but the ball got away and Ussery took second. But Gage Fortner had his fielders’ backs as he struck out Chanse Glenn, got Mitchell Walker to ground out, and struck out Judd Henke.
North Harrison threatened again in the second, loading the bases with one out, but Tate Richardson lined out to Jack Schreffler in center and Ryker Fortner grounded into a force and no damage was done.
Princeton got more traffic in its half of the second as Jack Schreffler singled, took second on an error, and took third on a wild pitch. But consecutive strikeouts by Gage Fortner got North Harrison out of the inning.
With two outs in the third, North Harrison got its third run when Dustin Hamilton doubled and Kellan Craig singled after recovering from an 0-2 count to make it 3-0.
Princeton worked runners to second and third with two out in the third, but Fortner struck out Judd Henke to end that threat. Randy Wilson singled in the fourth with two outs for Princeton and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Fortner struck out Brekk Illg to get out of the inning.
There were some anxious moments in the Princeton seventh as Randy Wilson and Travyn Shields reached on errors and Bowe Ussery singled to load the bases with one out. Chanse Glenn struck out for the second out, but Mitchell Walker singled to score Wilson to make it 3-1. But Judd Henke flied out to Ryker Fortner to end the game.
