Week Two Eight Man Rankings

#1 Mound City 56, Stewartsville 8
Mound City had little trouble disposing of Stewartsville, needing only two passes and 22 plays total in order to score their 56 points in a game which ended in the third quarter. T.J. Hopkins had 84 yards, Landon Poppa had 67, and Dylan George had 66 on the ground. Mound City blocked two more punts after blocking two against Platte Valley and recovered a fumble. They had 12 tackles for loss and seven sacks against the Cardinals.

#2 Pattonsburg 94, Braymer 38
This one was not as close as the score. Pattonsburg was up 50-0 after six minutes, and quarterback Steven Willhite only played the first quarter in the win. By halftime, Pattonsburg had 88 points. They had four fumble recoveries, two kickoffs returned for a touchdown, one punt return, and one fumble return. The Panthers will face a much stiffer challenge this Friday in North Andrew.

#3 East Atchison 46, North/West Nodaway 0
This one wasn’t close, although North/West Nodaway was able to survive into the third quarter after giving up 72 in the first half last year in districts. But they were hurt by eight penalties for 85 yards. They eliminated the turnovers that had haunted them against Stewartsville, but couldn’t move the ball, only mustering 43 yards in total offense. They had one play go for 12 yards, and their next longest play went for four. For East Atchison, Briacin Bywater rushed for 93 yards, while Jake McEnaney threw for 82.

#4 North Andrew 74, LeBlond 13
After being almost exclusively a running team last year, North Andrew is developing a passing game this year behind the arm of Jaden Baker, who threw for 167 yards against LeBlond. Baker ran for another 115, and nine different Cardinals combined to carry the ball for 441 yards. They had 608 yards in total offense.

Bedford 64, #5 Worth County 56
Worth County drops three places after falling to previously winless Bedford at home Friday. While they posted impressive numbers offensively, and quarterback Aydan Gladstone and runningback Andrew Alarcon kept the Tigers in the game, their defense is a major rebuilding project. They will have a week to fix their defense before #6 Albany comes to town.

#6 Albany 78, Stanberry 24
Albany beat Stanberry for the first time ever since joining the eight man ranks. Dawson Butterfield rushed for 124 yards, Ethan Mercer rushed for 56, and Tryce Floyd rushed for another 32 as the Warriors rolled for the win. They had 314 yards in total offense and another 181 in return yards. Defensively, Grant Bounds had 16 tackles, Tryce Floyd 12, and Kirby Stevens 11. Dawson Butterfield had four tackles for loss, and the team had 13. Butterfield had a scoop and score, Kaeden Hutchinson had a 70 yard pick six, and Tryce Floyd had a punt return for a touchdown. For Stanberry, a young team and a pair of critical injuries has left them reeling.

#7 DeKalb 42, King City 34
The second tough loss in a row for the young King City squad. They took a 16-6 lead in the first, but could not make it stand up, as DeKalb outscored them 20-0 in the third to take control. Darrin McElfresh had 28 carries for 186 yards, while Wyatt Ashpaugh had 88 yards passing for the Tigers. Joe Lofland had 17 tackles for the Tigers, while McElfresh had 15, Drake Miller 12, Eric Kelley 11, and Wyatt Ashpaugh and Caiden Jarrett 10 each. DeKalb had nine tackles for loss. For King City, Jacob Moen did all he could in the loss, getting 31 carries for 184 yards.

#8 Rock Port 34, Platte Valley 6
Rock Port is not going away, as Joey Herron has established himself as one of the top runningbacks this year. He rushed for 260 yards in 22 carries in the win after getting 255 against DeKalb the previous week. He has 52 carries for 515 yards this year, and he’s only a junior.

#9 Southwest Livingston 66, South/Nodaway-Holt 62
A wild game saw the Southwest coop build up a 44-28 lead at halftime, only for it to slip away as the Spartans close to within 50-48. Southwest was able to hold on the rest of the way. Mack Anderson rushed for 169 and threw for another 129 in the win.

#10 Osceola 56, Liberal 38
Osceola has been a doormat since joining the ranks of eight man, but this year, they have jumped out to a 2-0 start behind the play of Tyler Guerin. He threw for 271 yards and ran for another 147 as the Indians turned back Liberal, who is 0-2, but has played both of their first two opponents tough. Hunter Noakes ran for another 68 yards and caught six passes for 113 yards. Turnovers made the difference, as Osceola had three picks and recovered a fumble on defense and added nine tackles for loss.
