Tevin Cameron was named the St. Joseph News-Press Eight Man Football Player of the Year Sunday. He rushed for 2,097 yards and 53 touchdowns along with 119 tackles and 5½ sacks on the defensive side of the ball.
“We knew going it, it was going to be a special season,” said Cameron to the News-Press. “We worked hard over the summer and over this season. We knew what our goal was and we set out for. We worked hard and practiced hard and went out and achieved everything we wanted.” His picture, along with a profile, was published in the Sunday edition.
Chris Healy was named Coach of the Year for the squad. He guided the Tigers to its first state title this year since taking over from Hall of Fame Coach Chuck Borey.
Several other Tiger football players were named to the News-Press Eight Man Squad. They were Ryan McClellan (All-Purpose Back), Colton Wilmes (Offensive Line), Mason Hawk (Offensive Line), Devan Jackson (Defensive Line), Drake Kinsella (Defensive End), and Bryant McCord (2nd Team Defensive Back).
McClellan added another 735 yards on the ground for the Tigers. The Tiger line opened holes that led to the Tigers picking up over 3,000 yards rushing total for this year. The Tigers were ranked 11th nationally by Max Preps among six, eight, and nine man schools. They were the second highest ranked team that was not from Texas.
Two members of the Pattonsburg football team, which includes North Harrison, were named. They were Cole Dilley (Quarterback), and Peyton Jones (Tight End). They anchored a team that torched teams through the air as the Panthers more than doubled their win total from last year and went 5-6. They were ranked 10th among Missouri teams by Max Preps.
Named to the News-Press Softball Squad from North Harrison were Payton Craig (2nd Team Infield), and Emma Craig (2nd Team). North Harrison won third place at state this year, winning the HDC Conference, the North Harrison Tournament, and the Albany Tournament as well. They had victories over such teams as Hamilton, Platte Valley, Maysville, and King City during their season. The News-Press listed Emma as an outfielder, but she caught most of North Harrison’s games this year.
