A portion of Old 169 north of Grant City near Irena has been targeted for closing, meaning that it will no longer be maintained by the county. Affected landowners have signed a petition requesting the closure of the section. The county must post a notice on the road before closure; if any affected party objects to the closure, the county commission will hold a public hearing on the matter.
The commission appointed Suzi Hull to serve on the Enhanced 911 Board.
There will be no mail service on Monday, October 8th; the Courthouse and Grant City License Office will be closed that day due to the Columbus Day holiday. The commission will hold their regular meeting on October 9th. The commission will do preparation for an agro-terrorism exercise that will be held on October 11th. Local fire departments will participate in an LEPC exercise on October 27th in Sheridan starting at 9:00 at the Sheridan Firehouse.
October 10th will be the last day to register to vote for the November 6th election.
The county is in the process of applying for a grant for a wood chipper. It could be used to pick litter off of roads as well as shred trees. The county could also set up agreements with the towns within the county for them to use it as well. It could also be used for road rehab similar to what was needed following the ice storm a few years ago. Back then, both the City of Grant City and the county rented a wood chipper. The city paid $2800 while the county paid between $3000 and $4000. Economic Developer Tammy Ueligger is in the process of obtaining quotes.
This weekend's County Market Days will be held on the square. There may possibly be music that day; commissioners gave permission to use the gazebo in case that happens. They are looking for pumpkin vendors since Halloween is coming up. There will be no vendor fees for anyone wishing to try County Market Days for the last two weekends.
Sheriff Terry Sheddrick is still looking for a pickup. The county commissioners will look at vehicles and compare prices.
Various brush issues were discussed around the county. The Susan Rinehart road still does not have all the trees cut out according to the commissioners. There are some brush issues on Road #189, where the county recently put in a tube. One removed the brush along their fence line to the county's satisfaction. Commissioners and Road & Bridge Foreman Jim Fletchall said that one brush letter resulted in some cutting, but some limbs were still sticking out.
The Conservation roads, which consist of roads that are next to Missouri Department of Conservation lands, were discussed. In the past, the MDC has put gravel on some roads but not on others, which commissioners say results in uneven quality. The county is in the process of putting together its annual request to the MDC for gravel. There is close to five miles of road involved.
