NEN Girls Get Season High 49 Points at Platte Valley

The Northeast Nodaway girls were 5th in the Platte Valley Conference Meet with a season high 49 points. DeKalb racked up the title with 170 points; North Andrew followed with 72, followed by Jefferson with 84 and Stewartsville with 67.

Taryn Farnan was 4th in the High Jump with a jump of 4'2". That was 6" off the first place finish of Alex Belcher of Stewartsville.

Michelle Schulte came tantalizingly close but came up short in the Long Jump and finished second with a jump of 14'8. Shanna Welch won the event on tiebreaks. Kerrigan Adwell placed for the first time this year, getting a jump of 12'4 1/2", good enough for 6th place.

The Bluejays placed two in tough conditions at the Triple Jump. Michelle Schulte was 3rd with a jump of 29'1". That was 1'8 1/2" off the jump of Shanna Welch of Jefferson. All of the distances were well off what they were in Stanberry. Taryn Farnan placed again in the event, getting 5th with a jump of 26'9".

Northeast placed two in the 100 Hurdles. Shayna Dougan placed for the first time all year in the 100 Hurdles, getting 5th with a time of 21.031. Katrina Freemeyer was 6th with a time of 22.166.

The 4x200 Relay Team of Kerrigan Adwell, Katrina Freemeyer, Taryn Farnan, and Shayna Dougan placed for the first time this year as they finished 5th with a time of 2:15.974. That was 12.9 seconds off the winning pace set by North Andrew.

In her second try at the 1600, Michelle Schulte dominated the event like her older sister did last year. She won with a time of 6:15.759, which was 37.07 seconds better than Jordan Killoren of DeKalb.

Kerrigan Adwell was 6th in the 400 with a time of 1:19.072. That was 11.49 seconds behind the pace set by Melissa Shelby of DeKalb. That was the first time she placed in the 400 this year.

Madison Reagan came within four hundredths of a second behind Michelle Schulte at Stanberry, but Michelle had a much easier time at the Platte Valley, winning by 8.14 seconds over Reagan this time. The tiny but deadly Schulte girl got her second first place finish of the day and had a time of 2:42.967.

The boys got 14 points on their side of the fence. Sage DeLong was 4th in the Long Jump with a jump of 17'5 1/2". Steve Schulte got a personal best with 17'5 1/2" and finished 5th on tiebreaks behind his teammate. That was the first time that he placed this year. Sage DeLong also placed in the Triple Jump, where he was 4th with a jump of 35'. Those were his two highest finishes of the year.

Sage DeLong placed 4th in the 200 with a time of 26.758. That was 2.9 seconds off the pace set by Dominick Fleeks of Stewartsville. That was his best showing in that event this year.
