Athletic Banquet: Katie Mullock Surprise Point Leader for Tiger Track Girls

Katie Mullock was the surprise winner of the Bill Gladstone Jr. Memorial Traveling Trophy that is passed from one athlete to the next this year. She accepted the award from teammate Jessica Garrett, who had been in a neck and neck competition with Brooke Gilland last year for the award. Janet Gladstone, who presented the trophy in memory of her late husband, said that records were good, especially for track even when the record you set is only a personal best. Katie Mullock, while she did not place a lot of firsts, consistently placed in the 100, 200, Long Jump, and other events and moved up in the standings in the sprint events as the season progressed. She set a personal best in winning the Long Jump at Stanberry. Nobody has ever won the trophy four years in a row on the girls side, but Katie Mullock has made a start of it as a freshman. Eli Mullock was the winner on the boys side, consistently winning all year in the 100 and 200 in defending his state title.

The boys basketball team celebrated their 17-10 season as they finished third in the GRC behind Hamilton and South Harrison and battled every game and won their first tournament in 15 years. Provisional letter winners were Grant Parman, Dylan Kinsella, Lane Craven, Andrew Mullock, and Travis Troutwine. Brian Hall was a first-year letter winner while Alex Harmening, Wyatt McClain, Jordan Harding, Todd Harding, Eli Mullock, and Bryce Ross were returning letter winners. Named to the Academic All-Conference squad were Brian Hall, Alex Harmening, Jordan Harding, and Todd Harding. Alex Harmening finished his career second on the all time steals chart and also got the single season steals record.

Awarded the "Mr. Offense" awards were Todd Harding and Bryce Ross. Coach Chris Healy said that he could tell when Todd was not on the court because they would struggle on offense when he was off the court. He said that a common comment from other coaches was, "I don't know how he does it." Bryce Ross led the team in scoring and was third in the conference in scoring as well. He sported a deadly midrange jumper that was tough for other teams to stop.

Awarded the "Mr. Defense" awards were Alex Harmening, Jordan Harding, and Eli Mullock. Alex rewrote the steals record book for the Tigers while Jordan was one of the most versatile players on the team as he could guard a 6'4" post player one night and the other team's point guard the next night. Eli Mullock made himself into one of the toughest defenders on the team; for instance, he shut down Princeton's best player which led to Worth County's win over Princeton. Team captains were Alex Harmening, Todd Harding, and Wyatt McClain, who was usually the first man off the bench.

The girls were 3-20, but won their first two conference games in two years with wins over Albany and Gallatin. There were around 10 other games that they were close in as well. Brooke Gilland was recognized for leading the team in rebounding with 122; Kiley Reynolds won the Defensive Player of the Year award, while Liz Novak, who led the team in scoring, got Newcomer of the Year Award.
