McCaskill to Cosponsor Statewide Procurement Conference to Help Small Businesses

While small businesses work to rebound from the great recession, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill is working to make sure Missouri small businesses have the opportunities to access government contracts that will grow Missouri’s economy and help create new jobs in our state. Today, McCaskill is proud to announce the 23rd annual Procurement Conference, a hands-on workshop to connect small businesses with resources and information about government purchasing practices and doing business with local, state and federal governments.

On June 2nd at the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, McCaskill will co-host the conference along with the Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Centers and the Small Business & Technology Development Center, to put Missouri small businesses directly in touch with officials from a variety of government agencies so they can learn more about how to compete for and win government contracts. General Duncan McNabb, commander of United States Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) at Scott Air Force Base, IL will be the keynote speaker at the conference.

The all-day event is open to all small business owners interested in learning about, competing for, or providing services or products at the state, local or federal government level. At the workshop, representatives from a variety of agencies, such as the Department of Defense, the Small Business Administration and the Missouri Department of Transportation, will provide information through a number of hands-on breakout sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to talk individually with government officials from these agencies. Over 200 government buying offices and 1300 contractors have been invited to present information and resources to Missouri’s small businesses at the conference.

Space is limited, so participants must register in advance by contacting the Small Business & Technology Development Center at www.ucmo.edu/sbtdc or (660) 543-4402. There is a $50 registration fee that goes entirely towards covering the cost of putting together the event. Individuals with disabilities who require auxiliary aids or special services to participate in this event should contact the Small Business & Technology Development Center for assistance. The workshop is open to members of the press.
