Claire Andrews Wins Pole Vault; Eli Mullock Wins Twice

Claire Andrews won the Pole Vault and Eli Mullock successfully defended his title in the 100 and 200 at the State Track Meet last weekend. The girls finished with 15 points while the boys finished 10th with 22 points.

Jessica Garrett did not qualify in the 100 Hurdles as she got a time of 18.59 seconds, which placed her 13th. However, Brooke Gilland qualified as she continued to shave time off her personal best, getting a time of 17.01 in the preliminaries.

Brooke Gilland then shaved more time off her time in the 100 Hurdles and saved her best for last as she finished 4th with a time of 16.82. That was 1.21 seconds off the pace of Katlyn Meier of Vienna, but it was the best time of any of the local competitors.

Katie Mullock finished 12th in the Long Jump. She got a jump of 15' 3/4", saving her best for last. That was 1'4" off the jump of Emma Schiermeier of Vienna.

The 4x100 Relay Team of Kiley Reynolds, Jessica Garrett, Brooke Gilland, and Katie Mullock did not place, but they got their best time of the year with a time of 54.73. That was .72 of a second better than sectionals and 3.03 seconds off the pace of Liberal.

Claire Andrews provided the highlight of the day for the girls, winning the Pole Vault. Her winning jump was 9'3", three inches ahead of Shelbie White of Tarkio. Worth County has now produced four state champions in the Pole Vault in April Miller (now Healy), Tiffany Troutwine, Jessica Borey, and now Andrews.

Eli Mullock won the prelims in the 100, getting a time of 11.31. That was .2 of a second ahead of Daniel Anderson of Brashear.

The 4x800 Relay Team of Mitch Andrews, Jordan Harding, Levi Kalal, and Bryce Ross finished with their best time of the year even though they placed 11th. They shaved several seconds off their time in finishing with a time of 8:49.17. That was 35.43 seconds off the pace set by Valle Catholic.

Eli Mullock broke the state record in the 100 as he won handily with a time of 11.01. That was .45 of a second ahead of second place Daniel Anderson of Brashear and .02 of a second better than the old state record. Eli also successfully defended his state title in the 200 as he won with a time of 22.62. Both Eli and Dominick Fleeks, who beat him out in Albany, improved on their times, but Eli won by .17 of a second. That was .55 of a second better than what he did in Albany.
