Tiger Girls Record Three Firsts at Sectionals

Worth County's girls placed three firsts in sectionals, the most since the last year they won state. Eli Mullock qualified in both the 100 and 200 and both Brian Hall and Dallas Greenland advanced in the discus. Michelle Schulte, Northeast Nodaway's lone district qualifier, narrowly missed qualifying in the 800 despite coming as close as she had all year to nemesis Emilee Messer of Mound City.

Katie Mullock missed qualifying in the 100, but set a personal best with a time of 13.53. That was .91 seconds off the pace of Maria Rains of KC Lutheran and she placed sixth in the event.

One of the most exciting races of the afternoon happened in the 800. Michelle Schulte, Northeast's lone entry in the sectionals, missed qualifying in the 800 by .08 of a second despite coming as close as she had all year to beating Emilee Messer of Mound City. Messer won with a time of 2:33.05 and Schulte came within .5 of a second of beating her with her 2nd best time of the year at 2:33.55. Five different runners finished within .5 of a second of each other in that event and Schulte was 5th in the event.

Brooke Gilland showed that her showing in the 100 Hurdles was no accident as she improved on her time in Rock Port and beat out Amber Adams of Polo by .03 of a second. She got a personal best time of 17.09, which was .24 of a second better than what she did in Rock Port. Jessica Garrett also qualified to state, placing 3rd with a personal best time of 17.80 as she finally broke the 18 second barrier.

The 4x100 Relay Team showed that their win in Rock Port was no accident as they won against in Albany, beating out the Warriors by .34 of a second. The team of Claire Andrews, Jessica Garrett, Brooke Gilland, and Katie Mullock won with a time of 55.45, one of their best times of the year. Everyone but Gilland is back next year, so the Tigers have established a strong 4x100 team in years to come.

Claire Andrews picked up the third first place finish for the girls as she won the Pole Vault with a personal best of 9'6" after almost clearing it in Rock Port. That was one foot ahead of Rock Port.

Katie Mullock outdid her Stanberry performance as she raised her personal best in the Long Jump by 3" and placed third, qualifying in that event. That was 5 1/2" off the pace of Megan Rosenbohm of Nodaway-Holt.

Rebecca Moore did not qualify in the Discus, but she set a personal best with a throw of 91'3". That was 20'3" off the pace of Amanda Rodenburg of Orrick.

On the boys side, Eli Mullock set a state record as he won with a time of 10.98. That beat the old record of 11.03 set back in 1996 by Robert Parker of Missouri School of the Deaf. That was .4 of a second ahead of Anthony Pluff of K.C. Lutheran. Mullock was 2nd in the 200 as he was beat out by Dominick Fleeks of Stewartsville by one hundredth of a second. Mullock improved on his time from Rock Port and had a time of 23.17.

Ryan Smith did not qualify in the 400 as he finished 8th with a time of 59.67. That was 6.12 seconds off the pace of Lafayette Fleeks of Stewartsville.

The 4x400 team of Mitch Andrews, Jordan Harding, Bryce Ross, and Ryan Smith did not qualify as they finished 7th with a time of 3:55.71, one of their better times of the year. That was 9.05 seconds off the pace of Stanberry. The 4x800 Relay Team broke the nine minute barrier as they qualified and finished third with a time of 8:59.06. That was their best time of the year and was 1.12 seconds off the pace of Stanberry.
