The Public Is Invited: Community Briefings Next Week

Missouri Department of Transportation plans to reduce the department's staff by 1,200, closing 135 facilities and sell more than 740 pieces of equipment. These proposed changes will save $512 million that will be used for vital road and bridge projects. The staff reduction will occur through attrition and transfers, and, as a last step, layoffs. MoDOT is holding communitiy briefings in the next 30 days to share information about how this will take place and to gather comments and suggestions from the public.

The briefings will be an Open House format, and the public is welcome to come at any time during the two hour period.

The next series of meetings are scheduled for:

* Maryville, Missouri, The Hangar Theater, 1602 South Main, Tuesday, May 17, 2011, 10:00 am to Noon
