Gazebo Construction Underway

Construction for the new gazebo on the northwest corner of the Courtyard began last weekend with volunteer crews putting up the structure. There will be another workday planned Saturday morning at 8:30. The plan is to have it done in time for the Sesquicentennial Celebration. The county had to dig up the Horseshoe pit, and Bill Calhoon of the Grant City Lions Club was there to discuss relocating the pit. One possible area was the southwest corner of the Courtyard.

The county had to transfer $300 back into the Emergency Rock fund to cover an order. The CART fund was low as well. FEMA allowed $12,000 more of flood relief work; the money is still subject to auditing by FEMA. The county is still waiting on FEMA to come and look at projects.

Emergency Management Director Pat Kobbe said that she would participate in an earthquake exercise from 8-12 tomorrow. The county or the region could possibly house victims in the event of a major earthquake along the New Madrid Fault. Likely locations in the region would include the university depending on whether or not classes were in session as well as places in St. Joseph. Pat would be in Maryville and commissioners would be at the Courthouse with Presiding Commissioner Ted Findley acting as the information officer for the county. There would be a big need of relief supplies such as dentures, hearing aids, records, credit cards, a change of clothes, and toothpaste. On May 26th, there will be a foreign animal disease exercise.
