Michelle Schulte Shines in 800 at Rock Port

Michelle Schulte qualified to advance in the 800 and several other Northeast Nodaway athletes got personal bests at the district track meet in Rock Port Saturday.

Taryn Farnan did not qualify in the High Jump as she went up against a tough field, but she matched a personal best with a jump of 4'8" despite battling an injury. That was good for 6th place and was 4" off the jump of Rachel Thomsen of North Harrison. Taryn Farnan and Alysa Lyle of Worth County will be two of the favorites in that event in coming years as two of the people who placed ahead of Taryn graduate.

Michelle Schulte missed qualifying by a quarter inch in the Long Jump as she jumped 14'6 1/4" to place 5th. That was 5" off the pace of Megan Rosenbohm of Nodaway-Holt. The field at the top was really crowded as the first six competitors were all within 5 1/4" of each other. Kerrigan Adwell was 15th in the event with a jump of 11'9".

Steve Schulte was 13th in the Long Jump on the boys side with a jump of 13 feet. that was 6'4 1/2" off the jump of Eric Duncan of Rock Port.

Michelle Schulte did not qualify in the Triple Jump as she jumped 30 feet in that event. That was 2'5 1/4" off the jump of Taylor Miles of Mound City. In that event, the top nine finishers were all within three feet of each other. Both the Long Jump and Triple Jump will be crowded and wide open; in the Long Jump, the top six are all underclassmen while in the Triple Jump, all but one of the top nine are underclassmen.

Shayna Dougan did not qualify in the 100 Hurdles, but got one of her best times of the year, getting a time of 20.94. That was 3.35 seconds off the pace of Brooke Gilland and placed her in 12th. Katrina Freemeyer was 15th with a time of 22.14.

The 4x200 Relay Team of Kerrigan Adwell, Shayna Dougan, Katrina Freemeyer, and Taryn Farnan did not qualify, but got their best time of the year as they took almost five seconds off their time to get a time of 2:10.53. That put them in 10th place and was 15.95 seconds off the pace of Stanberry.

Katrina Freemeyer did not qualify in the 400, but got her best time of the year in that event as she finished 10th with a time of 1:14.13. That was 12.10 seconds off the time of Megan Rosenbohm of Nodaway-Holt and was 2.11 seconds better than her previous best time. Kerrigan Adwell also got a personal best as she finished 12th with a time of 1:15.55. That was .79 of a second better than her previous best time.

Steve Schulte did not qualify on the boys side of the 400, but knocked over three seconds off his time in that event and got a personal best with a time of 1:06.91. That put him in 14th place, 14.46 seconds off the time of Devin Gage of Stanberry. In his heat, he was matched against Colton Hinkle who had beaten him all year. However, with sister Jacqueline seemingly willing him on, he passed Hinkle in the final stretch after trailing him most of the way to finish ahead of him.

Shayna Dougan did not qualify in the 300 Hurdles, but got her best time of the year with a time of 58.84. That was 7.58 seconds off the pace of Ashton Lewis of CFX, but she beat her previous best time in that event by .9 of a second. She placed 10th in that event.
