Brooke Gilland Dominates Districts at Rock Port

Brooke Gilland dominated the 100 Hurdles and helped the 4x100 Relay Team to a surprise win as she led Worth County to a 4th place finish in districts Saturday. Mound City, the defending state champions, won with 89 points followed with Rock Port with 81; Stanberry followed with 74. Worth County finished with 54, Nodaway-Holt finished with 52 points, followed by North Harrison with 49 points.

Claire Andrews won the Pole Vault with a season high 9 feet. She then nearly cleared 9'6". She was ahead of a whole host of people who had a vault of 8'6". Lauren Null matched a personal best and finished 5th with a vault of 7'6".

Katie Mullock qualified in the Long Jump and finished in a tie for third to advance to sectionals. She finished with a jump of 14'6 1/2". That was 8" off her jump at the Bulldog Relays and 4 3/4" off the jump of Megan Rosenbohm of Nodaway-Holt.

Rebecca Moore qualified in the Discus with a throw of 86'11, good enough for 4th place. That was 17'4" off the throw of Makayla Vette. Brooke Gilland finished with a throw of 55'6". Moore missed qualifying in the Shot Put as she had a throw of 21'3 1/2".

The 4x800 Relay Team of Kristen Andrews, Liz Novak, Kiley Reynolds, and Lauren Null finished 6th with a time of 11:35.77. That was 18.19 seconds off the pace of Mound City.

Brooke Gilland was the surprise winner of the 100 as she dominated with a time of 17.33. That was her best time ever in that event. When she qualified with a time of 17.59, that sounded like a misprint as she had been behind teammate Jessica Garrett all year and had normally finished in the mid 18's. But then she showed it was no accident as she improved on that time in the finals. She was .74 of a second ahead of Shanna Welch. Jessica Garrett also qualified as she got one of her best times of the year, getting a time of 18.14, good enough for 4th. In the finals, five different runners finished between 18.07 and 18.17 behind Gilland.

Katie Mullock qualified in the 100 as she finished 4th with a time of 14.10. That was 1.01 seconds off the pace of Chandelar Carey of North Harrison for the day.

The 4x200 Relay Team of Kristen Andrews, Claire Andrews, Jessica Garrett, and Brooke Gilland barely missed qualifying as they finished 5th with a time of 1:59.66. That was 5.08 seconds off the pace of Stanberry.

The 4x100 Relay Team of Claire Andrews, Jessica Garrett, Brooke Gilland, and Katie Mullock were the surprise winners with a personal best time of 55.15. That was .28 of a second ahead of Albany. Albany had beaten Worth County all year and Worth County trailed Albany through most of the race. But Brooke Gilland closed the gap against the Warriors and then Katie Mullock passer the Albany runner in the final 25 yards to win the race. That was their best time of the year.

Liz Novak finished 8th in the 400 with a personal best time of 1:10.72. That was 2.28 seconds better than her previous best time. It was 8.69 seconds off the time of Megan Rosenbohm of Nodaway-Holt.

Lauren Null narrowly missed placing in the 800, but got a personal best time of 2:44. That was over 4 seconds better than her time set at Stanberry. That was 16.05 seconds off the time of Emilee Messer of Mound City.

Katie Mullock narrowly missed qualifying in the 200 as she finished 5th with a time of 29.05. That was 1.93 seconds off the pace of Chandelar Carey of North Harrison and .26 seconds off her time at Stanberry last week.

The 4x400 Relay Team of Kristen Andrews, Claire Andrews, Liz Novak, and Kiley Reynolds finished 7th with a time of 4:48.91. That was 28.66 seconds off the time of Mound City.
