Weighted Class Proposal for Worth County School

Purpose:

To promote and reward student achievement for those who successfully complete college preparatory coursework.

Rationale:

The purpose of the weighted achievement grade scale is to serve as an incentive award designed to encourage students to pursue a rigorous course of study in high school whereby those students choosing the more rigorous subject areas will be rewarded for their accomplishments.

Goals:

· Increase ACT scores.

· Better prepare students for success in college.

· More accurately determine class rank based on rigor of courses taken.

· Improve assessment scores in core areas.

Proposal:

Weight only rigorous upper-level core classes and dual credit classes.

To be Reviewed:

Yearly by committee addressing new staff, new certifications, and changes in course offerings.

To be Implemented:

For the graduating class of 2013 with the ability to retroactively apply weighted classes as needed.
