Tiger Boys One Point Short of Stanberry in Early Bird

Worth County's boys had a solid track meet in the Early Bird Thursday, coming one point short of Stanberry in a meet that came down to the last event. Stanberry won the event with 111 points, followed by Worth County with 110. Maysville was third with 83 points while Albany had 73, King City 56, and Tri-County 35.

Brian Hall won the Shot Put for Worth County with a throw of 41'2". He finished ahead of Cory Drummond of North Nodaway. Dylan Kinsella, coming back from a knee injury, was fourth with a throw of 37'3".

Hall also won the discus throw with a toss of 131'7" That was almost eight feet better than Issac Eads of Maysville. Dallas Greenland was 5th with a throw of 101'8". Hall looks to be a favorite to recapture the form that made him one of the top shot putters in the area last year.

Grant Parman was 6th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 34'11 3/4". Worth County finished 1-2 in the Long Jump as Eli Mullock won with a jump of 18'2". Grant Parman was second with a jump of 17'11".

Alex Harmening returns as one of the favorites in the pole vault this year and he finished second with a vault of 10 feet. That was six inches behind Ben Humphrey of Albany, who got first.

Bryce Ross was third in the 110 Hurdles. He had a time of 19.90.

Eli Mullock is the defending state champion in the 100 Meter Dash and he began the defense of his title by winning with a time of 11.64, six tenths of a second ahead of Nate Luke. Mullock also won the 200 with a time of 24.14, 62 hundreths of a second ahead of Stanberry.

The 4x200 Relay Team of Andrew Mullock, Ryan Smith, Wyatt Rush, and Shane Kollitz finished fourth with a time of 1:47.77; that was almost seven seconds behind the winning time.

Mitch Andrews competed in the 1600 and finished fourth with a time of 5:20.86.

Ryan Smith placed in the 400 Meter Dash. He came in sixth with a time of 1:00.38. That was 5 1/2 seconds behind the winning time.
Bryce Ross won the 300 Hurdles with a time of 46.59. He was 1 1/2 seconds ahead of Trevor Johnson of Stanberry.

Levi Kalal got some points for the Tigers last year in the 3200 and he continued his form from last year, getting third with a time of 12:35. He was 57 seconds behind the winner, Myles Dustman of Tri-County.

The event came down to the 4x400. Worth County had to place at least second or finish no more than one place behind Stanberry to win the whole meet. The heavily favored Stanberry team got in front early and Worth County fell to fourth at one point. But they steadily caught up, going from fourth to third by the third handoff. Ryan Smith put on a big burst of speed that passed the Maysville runner and got his team into second before falling off and Worth County was able to finish a solid third. There was a glimmer of hope near the end as Maysville made things interesting during the final quarter turn; a win by Maysville and a second place finish by Stanberry would have handed Worth County the meet victory. But Stanberry held off the late charge to win by three seconds over Maysville while the Worth County team of Bryce Ross, Mitch Andrews, Ryan Smith, and Grant Parman finished third with a time of 3:57.00. Mitch Andrews said afterwards that the 4x400 would get better over the course of the year as they got into better shape.
