Obituary: Eunice Jones 1922-2011

Eunice Belle Jones was born July 24, 1922 in Malta, Montana to Roy and Goldia (Spencer) Sheumaker. She died March 25, 2011 in Maryville, Missouri at the age of 88.

Eunice graduated from the Mt. Ayr High School in 1939. She taught in Iowa country school before her marriage. She married Gerald Jones on September 29, 1942 in Grant City, Missouri. She was a member of the Grant City Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday School. She worked as County Director for Community Services from 1966-1991. She was a manager for the Sunny Slope Apartments.

Eunice loved the community and served in many ways. She was a basic literacy tutor and taught oil painting at the Worth County Convalescent Center. She was the Senior Center Director and an officer for the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a member of the Community Betterment, Human Service Council, Missouri Extension Council, Worth County Fairgrounds Building, and Silver-Hair Legislature Representative. In her spare time she loved to write poetry.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald; parents; 1 grandson: Doanldson Earl Jones; 1 great-grandson: Liam Moser; 2 brothers: Roy and Tom Sheumaker and 2 sisters: Bernice Abarr and Julia Klang.

Survivors are children Michael Jones and wife Susan of Lake Ouivira, Kansas, Barry Jones and wife Linda of Bethany, Missouri, Timothy Jones of Grant City, Missouri, Carole Childlers and husband Ray of Glenwood, Iowa and Patrice Regnier and husband Dwayne of Weston, Missouri; 2 brothers: Clint Sheumaker of Kansas City, Missouri and John Sheumaker of Des Moines, Iowa; 3 sisters: Frances Saltzman of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Elizabeth Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa and Margaret Wood of Omaha, Nebraska and sister-in-law: Mary Roach and husband Garland of Grant City; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Interment was in the Honey Grove Cemetery in Grant City.
