Likelihood Increases for Nuclear Plant in Worth County, Region

FOX News reports that in the light of the Japan nuclear disaster, US officials are considering whether to locate new reactors in less populous areas. This means that this region, including Worth County, is a possible site down the road for a nuclear reactor. However, there are limitations for any possible nuclear plant in the area. Water would be a problem; there is not a lot of water in the region, a fact which has hindered growth in the region in the past several decades. Contamination of that water would be another issue along with the proximity of the area to the New Madrid Fault Line. There has been an increased interest in nuclear power as an alternative to dirtier coal and as a means of ending dependence on foreign oil.
