The Hot 8 Brass Band has been entertaining audiences with funk and energy on the streets of New Orleans for more than a decade. All members of the band were born and raised in New Orleans, and many began playing together in high school. The Hot 8 is known for their boundless energy and the special sounds they coax from their well-loved, well-worn horns.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina and the death of several band members due to violence, the Hot 8 Brass Band has committed itself to bringing people together through their unique brand of music to celebrate, to heal and to learn.
“The Hot 8 Brass Band offers a high energy show and is a great way to end the Encore season,” Director of Campus Activities Angel McAdams Prescott said. “This performance will not only be a cultural learning experience, but also a way to introduce a new and upbeat form of music.”
